Go to the link below, get the disk (it's free) or have someone download the ISO and make one for you, or do it at the library, it will boot from CD. When you boot, you can now read your important data and back it up if you want to. You can also browse the web, do e-mail and everything from the CD. Next, install everything on the hard drive and re-boot. You can now browse, do e-mail, watch movies and all that stuff you want to do. This fixes all blue screen crashes and other problems. Lots of people are doing this. If you don't understand, please do some reading about this, it's all right there at the web site.http://www.ubuntu.com/

Using the information below I checked the IRQ addresses. How many is too many? I have #'s 1-15 listed and #9 is listed 3 times. Is that too many? Others are listed once or twice. Thanks for your help! You can check for conflicts in the System Information tool under Accessories. Choose the hardware option and then the IRQ option. There should not be too many devices sharing one IRQ address. If this is a problem, you may consider changing the IRQ address if able, or reinstalling the hardware device to a new PCI slot. The further away from the original, the better.

Hello, Many reasons can be for a computer to freeze, but with AOL often problem occur whit the driver "GLOBAL.ORG" This file exists by two into the folder of AOL: 1) the first one is found on the program itself 2) the second is found in the folder "backup" Backup is use normally if for any reason you loose your AOL current configuration... the program is going then to the backup to restore itself alone. To get out of permanent freezing with AOL, just delete both "GLOBAL.ORG" files from AOL folder, the current one and the backup. AOL will rebuilt then a new and clean configuration asking you to indicate your config, as for exemple if you are using a modem or not. At the end of procedure reboot your computer and you will not freeze anymore with program AOL......

Typically, computers that simply 'freeze' or restart themselves without error message or blue screen indicate a problem with hardware. If you are using AOL on a dialup modem when this occurs, it would be easy to suspect that the modem may be having troubles. Troubleshoot recent hardware changes or additions first. Suspect that one of these devices may be bad or conflicting with another. Bad RAM can also cause these problems. You can download free software to test your RAM. Please use this as a guide. There are quite a few free RAM testers out there that are interested in getting your money rather than fixing your problem. Always back up a bad test with your local computer store with a hardware test. The previous post regarding power supply adequacey is accurate. Typically, you want a power supply capable of over 300 watts if your processor is an AMD athlon or PIII or PIV over 800 mhz. Also, if you have a lot of devices and/or USB devices connected to your computer, you should consider a higher wattage power supply. Typically, reinstalling an operating system will rarely help this issue. Therefore, I would avoid this option. Additional troubleshooting can be done by removing devices from the computer and adding them one at a time until the problem is recreated. The last device added will usually be the problem device. Hope this helps everyone. Good luck. FYI: Windows XP typically is a little more stable with hardware problems. It usually reports any problems in the Event Viewer. This was new with Windows 2000 and is a welcomed addition to XP. Computerpilot

To upgraders When upgrading a computer always ensure that there is an adequate power supply minimum 300w for an xp chip or preferably 400w.If you are running 250w or less you are asking for trouble.

??? I'm comletely stuck, my PC freezes after about 10-20mins of use, it stutters and then i'm forced to reset. I have built the PC myself, It also seems to take less time to freeze when i am using graphics intensive applications.I am using WindowsXP, have got a 2.0ghz CPU, 256Mb DDR333mhzDIMM, GF4Ti4400 AGPcard, SB Audigy Live, and a 2.8ghz cooler, 40GbHDD, I had ensured that my CPU is NOT overheating by adding a huge 20" Fan to the PC more than halving the temperature, and the problem still occurs. I doubt its the memory but i have another 512Mb on the way just in case... Any ideas would be very grateful. Darren Allen darren_a_allen23@hotmail.com
