I found this freeware program, yes it's free! works with 98 and 2000 too!
http://www.jv16.org/It's called "Reg Cleaner" and it's quite handy! If you have a program starting up without you wanting it to, it's probably starting in your regstry, you simply click on startup programs tab in this program and find it.
If you see entries like I did with "regedit" in them, you probably found it!
You can change the name of regedit to "regeditX" or something like that so this doesn't happen anymore, they use regedit to change your registry.
no one should be running regedit at startup!
so watch out and keep track of your start up programs, print out the ones you have now when you have no problems and you can compare later.
