It could be the CMOS battery. They do run down. It looks like a coin, about the size of a quarter and it's replaceable. Usually a CR2032There's also a small 3 pin jumper on some motherboards that resets the CMOS memory back to defaults. It's usually near the battery. In most cases you put the jumper on the other two pins for about 3 minutes, then you put it back (with the electric power off).
