Is the computer freezing or is Excel freezing? Can you C-A-D out?Do you get an error message in Windows?
Did you try to replace the Floppy Drive cable?
It is possible that if the entire computer is frozen after this occurs, that you have an IRQ conflict or memory IO sharing issue. You might want to look into this as well.
Let me know where you stand on the error message/freezing issue. This would give me a hint of whether this is a hardware or software issue.
