 flickering monitor Post a Reply
From: Roland on 03/21/2004
I have a Gateway desktop with a flat panel monitor, model FPD 1520. Just recently the monitor began to flicker. I have contected the monitor to other computers and it still flickers. Even when the monitor is not conected to a CPU the "No Signal Message" flickers so I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the video card. When I called Gateway Tech support they said they don't ever repair monitors they just replace them if they are under warranty. If the warranty has expired(in my case) then thier suggestion was to buy a new one.....damn thanks for the hot tip!

Anyone have any advice?

If the "no signal" message flickers when it is not connected to a CPU, its doubtful...no, make that IMPOSSIBLE that it is a refresh setting.

Not sure about LCDs but if it was normal monitor I would suspect that the refresh rate and or screen resolution has been changed to something the monitor won't support. You can look at the refresh rate by right clicking somewhere clear on the desktop choosing active desktop- customise my computer - settings - advanced- adapter and then look at refresh rate. Mine is set at 'adapter default'. Try reducing whatever refresh rate you have and see if that makes any difference.

I'm afraid Gateway is correct. You would not believe what it costs to repair LCD monitors.
