Ok, when I first bought this system, I installed the cracked corporated XP Pro, and it often crashed. I decided this was a poor idea, and I wouldnt be able to get updates, so I went and bought a copy of Windows Home, Full, OEM. Now, I ran a SFC /scannow, and it is saying to insert my Windows XP Professional Service Pack, Disc 2. Does this mean that there is possible traces of that XP Pro left on my HDD? Please someone reply, I made a post below, and no one responded. If im not giving adequate information, tell me what to give.

Boot your system to DOS using a DOS floppy. Format C: No need to Fdisk once partitions have been established. This should leave other partitions alone. Boot from XP disc and reinstall.

So, when I put on my XP home, and it asks me to do a repair, or a new install, is there a different way to FDisk my HDD? Can I run something from a DOS prompt, to completely erase a partition, rather then just booting from the Windows CD? Also, will it matter if I leave one partition alone.

It sounds like you installed your home edition over the previous bad install of pro. If this is the case, yes, your registry is probably hosed. Best advice at this point, as painful as it may be, back up all data, format the HD and start with a clean install.
