I noticed someone else posted this SAME problem to you in June. What happened to me is my computer shut down and I got the message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.I have Windows XP Home Edition operating system. How do I get this file back without doing a Full recovery and losing everything on my hard drive!! There is no MS-DOS to go to with Windows XP; am I correct? I hope you can help me!
