custom.DIC file and ~file appearing on desktop Post a Reply
From: Dale on 09/08/2003
I have a problem with a custom.DIC file and a ~file appearing on my desktop. Everytime I trash these files, they reappear the next day. The custom.dic file opens with notepad, but is empty. The ~file opens with notepad as well, but it contains what looks to be my contact list from msn email account. This problem started after I moved and got a verizon dial-up account, which the startup cd downloaded outlook express. I assume that the problem lies with incoming or outgoing email and the spellcheck dictionaries, but I do not know how to remedy this. My operating system is XP.

What is causing these files to appear?
How do I stop this problem?

HELP!

Go into your registry and delete custom.dic and that will stop it. When you use word again it will create the file over.

I have the same exact problem. Everytime I delete it, it comes back on. I even empty the recycle bin of it but to no avail. It's really annoying and I don't know how to remedy this either.
