Hello, What if you are receiving this error but you do not have MSN Office installed? What else could be causing this problem? I am using a Win98 OS. I have no excel.xlb file or excel directory (in the sulution suggested by Richard on 11/19/2003) in the path, windows\application data\microsoft\ Thanks in advance, JJ

Spent 2 days trying to find the problem, searched Microsoft for the error and nothing. Reinstalled Office several times, nothing. Came to this message board, and deleted the .XLB file, and within 30 seconds it was fixed. Thanks guys!

Ho my god! I passed last 24 hours trying to solve that problem too. Didn't want to re-install win98, office re-installation didn't worked. You know what? I found THE easy way to solve that fuc... problem. Just delete file named excel.xlb located in windows\application data\microsoft\excel and restart your computer! It's done. You will probably loose your customized toolbars but you saved a full windows, drivers and software installation!!! I found the information by typing BFF9DFFF EXCEL in Google.com. Thanks to my patience and the guys who gave the solution.

Sounds like you are having the same problem I am having. I have been told it is due to a deterorating video driver(s). You can do one of several things: 1. reinstall video drivers. Go to: My Computer, device manange, uninstall the video drive you have on your disc in the cd rom and reboot the system and let the system reinstall them. *2) Format your hard disc and rerload windows. Do this from your add/remove program and delete it from the program files too! Hope this helps.
