From: DALE on 05/27/2003
I contiue to get a message "Explorer has caused error in mshtml.dll" and suggests if I continue to get this message try to shut down and restart. I am unable to shutdown normally with the start button because I cannot get rid of the message window. Because this happens at starting the system and my inability to shutdown properly and restart only to restart with scan disc (partial not major scan). I am at a major brain fart. Anyone have a solution?? Windows me.

John's reply was spot on. I was having the same problem where every time I logged in, I would get a stupid message about an explorer error in my mshtml.dll, which meant I couldn't get on the internet to load any upgrade. I logged on via safe mode and created a startup disk via the add/remove programs option on the control panel. I then used somebody else's system to get a copy of mshtml.dll on CD. Using the startup us disk, I managed to get CDROM access via DOS and copied the file into the right place and hey presto all is OK. I would still advise going to the microsoft site and updating your IE version. Hope this helps.

Or you could go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mshtml and download the dll file then replace the old one.

RESOLUTION To resolve this problem -- Remove Smart Tags Support for Internet Explorer Close all open Internet Explorer windows. In Control Panel, start the Add or Remove Programs tool (or the Add/Remove Programs tool). Click Smart tags support for Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then click Change/Remove (or click Add/Remove).
