Well what you do is go to start > run then type in 'service.msc'. scroll down untill you find the remote procedures call service (there should be two - the top one is the one we want). Right click on that and click on properties - on the second or third tab along you will find a drop down menu which says automatically shut down in one minute. change all the options to 'take no action'. This will stop the worm. you can simply download a patch from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e70a0d8b-fe98-493f-ad76-bf673a38b4cf&DisplayLang=en But be warned you need a few previouse updates to apply this patch- so make sure your computer is up to date. hope that helps. :)

I wish someone in all this had identified the "patch" we supposedly look for - have been unable to find it at Microsoft or support.microsoft before the system shuts itself down *AGAIN*

if you get this problem and cant do anything before 1minute runs out ,go to start menu then run .type shutdown then hit space then type -a then ok this will stop bug and give you time to find patch to sort it.hope this will help

It's the lovsan worm that kicking our asses.go get the patch for the lovsan worm and save it to a different disk that you are formatting then after format install THAT patch BEFORE connecting to the net for the windows updates. I thought this damn thing was somehow living through a complete format but it was latching onto my fresh machine right before downloading the updates from Microsoft that would protect me from it. The bastard. I did the above and now everything is fine. Hope this helps. search yesterday and today's news MSN, and Foxnews for articles on it. It screws with the RPC and stuff. Good luck. Chris

"this is a very serious error on windows OS" bla bla ;)WAIT WAIT WAIT A friend told me that last night at 7.00 pm, a virus called MBLASTER caused the RPC to shut down... THERE IS NO DEFENSES AGAINST IT YET Solutions ? 1- go to microsoft site to download updates. (they sure to include a defense against mblaster soon) 2- find a anti-virus dat, updated with mblaster Im going to investigate nš2 solution Later i write something more

Part 2If i go to administrative tools-services-and disable pc shutdown i can surf internet BUT i have memory problems, i can not copy & past, access some downloads, etc I have particionated/formated my hard disk at low level, and re-installed XP. I still have the shutdown message happening, BUT the Generic host process message is gone. No the less i still have the RPC problem, and i can not access internet as i should be. (if i disable shutdown i have memory problems because NPS is not working) This is a very serious error in the windows OS. If only i could play my favorite games in linux... I can not think in more solutions, perhaps just install a old windows version... almost all my friends for a reason or other have deleted XP and installed older windows versions, i wonder why...

Each time i connect to internet with Cable modem, it appears following error:Generic Host Process for win 32 services has encountered problems and need to close. Consequences of the error: It appears a message saying the system is shuting down (60 seconds notice) , please save all work in progress and log off. This shoutdown was initiated by NT authority system. The windows is shuting down because : Remote procedure call (RPC) service termitated unexpectadly. SOLUTIONS:
1- I have formated C:\ and reinstalled windows XP -> didnt worked 2- Disabled remote assistance invitations -> didnt worked 3- Go to Administration tools -> Services -> RPC -> disable shutdown PC when error happens This solution prevents the consequences of the error BUT im still having the "GENERIC HOST PROCESS" error happening each time i log to internet PLEASE HELP, what i do to eliminate this error form my system ? Particionate my hard disks and install all ? im going desesperate.

I am getting the same problem even though I have not downloaded kazaa lite. This condition which results in the computer rebooting itself seems to have started when I started receiving popup adds telling me that my MSN messager was a potential security hole so I must ring this number .... . the problem goes when I am in safe mode but is present even when I remove every thing from the startup menu and the run registry section ( MacFee, viruscan, firewall, connectCorrect, Soundman etc) Any clues on how I diagnose and hence, rectify this problem? Regards Daniel

WARNING - there's a new exploit for RPC, you need to firewall ports 135, 139, and 445 - but you may have been compromised already, the ports open allow them to install trojan and use your computer for whatever they want, once trojan is in, ports don't matter. However something like zone alarm will let you know if something is using the net, keep tabs on what's accessing the net, or get latest virus def file if you think you have a problem and/or contact read about the latest Aug '03 RPC security problem and how your virus scanner can help. You can thank mr. way too rich gates for causing your problems

I'm getting the same error, then the 60-second shutdown warning pops up withing the next 5 minutes [NOTE: at a command prompt, shutdown -a will abort any pending shutdowns].I've seen references to this being due to a faulty HP Printer driver, so I unplugged my printer, I'm not using it lately anyway. I don't think that's it, though, because the extra details from the priginal error reporting dialog mentions kernel32.dll as the problem. I've been doing a lot in the way of telnet/chat/mail/server type configuration and installation, so no doubt one of the vbackground net programs I'm running is the culprit. More FYI: Generic Host Services is basically another flavor of "run a DLL as an EXE", except it runs in the background on XP/2K/NT type machines with \SYSTEM authority. I've come across this info in my search for this answer, it didn't do squat for my specific problem, but hopefully will help you guys and will "come around" for me on some other obscure problem some day.
