This is either a problem with your AOL install or the ActiveX script that comes with Internet Explorer.Try reinstalling AOL, use the latest version, save all your e-mail contacts etc.. first just in case. If that doesn't do it then try using Windows Update to get everything on your system updated, and possibly re-install AOL again after that. Windows Update - Internet Explorer - just click on Tools -->> Windows Update. Install everything except Service Pack 2 (on Windows XP). You can also search for any leftover or hidden files from AOL and remove them, then do the fresh install.

You people just don't get it. AOL is NOT THE INTERNET! Go get Earthlink, or look in your local phone book and use your brain, there has to be at least 20 ISPs in your area. AOL just sucks and you don't need all that crap they put on your computer just to get on the internet. You can still talk to all your buddies on AOL even though you are NOT ON AOL. So get a clue and stop complaining about problems YOU ARE CAUSING TO YOURSELF!

I've just about had it with AOL, They want your business but they do nothing to correct any problems that occurs. I will be looking for something better.

I fixed this problem by going to the Microsoft website and downloading the most recent version of Internet Explorer. AOL was of no use in resolving the problem.

I have the solution, go to CNET.com click on DOWNLOADS at the top. In the search field type in OPERA BROWSER, if you have windows search in windows if you have another operating system make sure you choose it in the drop down menu. Install it and you're ready to go. I was going nuts, uninstalling and reinstalling and every other thing, this works and it's FREE! Until AOL figures something out this will work. Good Luck.

I have a friend with this problem. I am trying to help her out of it. I can see that AOL is no help (as usual). That is why I left AOL 3 years ago and haven't looked back.Consider this: many of you had 8.0 working and now it will not. Some of you reinstalled a new disk and some of you just quit working. Keep in mind that AOL updates your software on line linve while you are logged in. The last issue of the 8.0 vxxx is probably bad, and you have either installed it from disk or been upgraded to it while on line. 1. My suggestion - get cable! 2. get MSN 3. get anything that you can OTHER THAN America in Hell otherwise - reinstall 7.0; copy your 7.0 files to a safety folder. If it gets corrupted, move you mail and downloads to the safety folder and overwrite the original files with a copy of the safety folder. Now go back to 1.

I'm having the exact same problem. Does this error keep me from accessing links to my banking website, as I can no longer access the links in my online banking. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and uninstalled I can't tell you how many times, including emptying cache and cannot get rid of this error message. HELP someone..AOL gave me 10 pages of what to do, and I did it all, and still doesn't work.

I live on AOL and help at least 10 people a day with AOL problems. If you have an AOL disk, get it ready. Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and totally delete AOL from your computer. You WILL NOT lose your address book, e mail, etc. Then, go to Search, Files and Folders and type in aol. Everything that comes up will need to be manually deleted. These are hidden files in AOL that sometimes remain. You may even find older versions of AOL still hidden on your computer. To delete, click on it once and hit the delete key on your keyboard. Then, re-install AOL. Companion is a pain in the butt, but it can be over-ridden when re-installing AOL from a disk all over again. Just be sure to delete all former aol files. If anyone needs additional assistance, leave an after thought.

After researching and getting nowhere I deleted the companion folder. The companion folder is usually program files\aol companion. Then did a re-install of aol online. It worked find afterwards. It appears that during the installation process there may be a bug in the script engine. Deleting the folder forces it to be replaced.
