Re Kevin's post 10-28-06 "To correct the problem, run Norton's Windoctor, check the option to manually repair the problem. Once this is performed, choose the option to delete the invalid registery command. I have checked numerous times and the problem does NOT recur."When I follow this suggestion, I get a message that the entry cannot be deleted. Now what????

Ok, Me too! I have same problem, in my case it's about MSN messenger. Should we just put it in ignore list? BTW, in case I decide to fix the rpoblem manually, how do I do that renaming from 0 to f0, etc? Thanx!

I had the same problem with the Mozilla Thunderbird Email Application. When I used Norton to scan for problems, this error was always found, fixed, but kept recurring in addtional Norton Scans. To correct the problem, run Norton's Windoctor, check the option to manually repair the problem. Once this is performed, choose the option to delete the invalid registery command. I have checked numerous times and the problem does NOT recur. This is a quick fix to an annoying problem that does not harm any software.

This is directly from Symantec/Norton: Situation:After launching AOL, WinDoctor and One Button Checkup find 15 ActiveX errors. You choose to repair these errors, and get a message that the repairs were successful. The next time AOL is launched, WinDoctor and One Button Checkup find the same 15 ActiveX errors. Solution: This problem has been known to occur after using the AOL 7.0 software. The errors are usually ActiveX entries found in the Windows registry. AOL starts many temporary programs to display the Welcome screen and to start the software used to negotiate the log-on process. These programs are temporary, and are deleted because they are only needed during the AOL startup process. The ActiveX entries in the registry (used with the temporary log-on programs) however, are not removed when AOL 7.0 deletes the temporary programs. WinDoctor finds these ActiveX entries, but cannot find the programs that they are associated with, because those programs no longer exist (they are loaded and deleted each time AOL 7.0 is started). WinDoctor then reports the errors when a scan is performed. This behavior is due to the design of AOL 7.0 and these apparent "errors" will repeatedly appear. You may elect to repair the entries, or if the repeating errors are inhibiting your work, you can set WinDoctor to simply ignore them, leaving the invalid ActiveX entries in the registry. Please see the document WinDoctor finds errors that you do not want to fix for instruction to have WinDoctor ignore the errors.

I too had a active x issue on my Windows XP, it was pointing to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\WIN40\0. I am not sure what started it (I don't have AIM on my machine, and never did), however there is are driver files in there for my HP 4000 laserjet printer. I renamed the 0 folder to f0, per another person's reply. It appears that the problem is the system not being able to handle a folder named "0", must be an XP thing (just guessing).

you can delete it, you can do it manually or with windowctor.. but as soon as you fire up explorer.. some small install dialog just flashes once.. and the entry is back odd, spooky strange.. i however have got no AOL or anything else like that installed.. must be some windows update flaw i guess

I had a similar problem after my niece installed AIM on my Win XP Pro system (and I uninstalled it after her visit--perhaps this is just AOL's way of punishing me for uninstalling their software!). I also have an HP G85 printer, which seems to be a common theme. My error said the problem was with ...\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\0. I tried renaming the key's data from 0 to f0 as suggested above, without luck. I then tried deleting the key, and the problem has gone away. I did not remove the other AtWorkRendering keys.

Judging by the dates on the board, I'm a little behind the times; however,I too had the error: AtWorkRendering\shell\PrintTo\command refers to an invalid command entry, Location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_America Online 9.0\idb\bart\0. Removal of AIM was only temporary-as the error returned on the next cold boot. I went to the subfolder of said location and renamed the key f0. This seems to have permanently eliminated the error. Several scans later there has been no return and all functions are present and normal. Thank you for leading me in the right direction and helping to remove an irritation of long standing.

I found a continuing error of this type: "AtWorkRendering\shell\Print to\ , etc. etc. on my PC too. What I found is that when Norton tried to fix the problem it was looking at folders that were named "1". I noticed that for some of the people posting, a folder of name "0" was used. I also noticed that I have a folder with the name "1". In this folder is some driver stuff including HP driver stuff. I determined that somehow the other (sub)folders I had that were named "1" were confusing my system. I renamed the subfolders that had simple integer names (except for the driver folder of course!) . For example I renamed subfolder 0 to f0, 1 to f1, etc. I then did the automatic Norton fix in the WinDoctor, and it is really fixed and has not returned. I decided to rename the folders because I figured that this is likely to foul up things in my system in the future. I probably only had to actually rename the "1" subfolders. Those who have (sub)folder(s) containing drivers and other such things with a name of "0" should rename these (sub)folders. I am not a PC expert, but this seems to have worked and I think it is safer than hand editing or deleting registry entrys and should also prevent a reoccuring problems.

I have the same active x file come up in norton system works as a window registry error. However it refers to a different location. Norton fixes it but it is always back again when I run a new scan. I have been afraid to delete it intil I learn more. I know of no associated problems.

I recently began to see this error also. And I did notice that Norton seemed to find the error starting with AIM. After deleting entries in the AIM folder 0 or 1, the error reported another location. I used the regedit to remove the key. Norton no longer reports the error. Printing to my HP printer is just find.Has anyone tried searching the Symantec knowledgebase for this same error to see what suggestions they have?

What happened with me was my disk drives (M and N) kept disappearing (the M: and N: icons weren't appearing when I'd open up My Computer on the desktop and I wasn't able to burn CD's). I ran Norton WinDoctor and it found a problem in the ActiveX/COM entries (missing or invalid key) and the source of it was located in C:\Program Files\Application Data\Aim\bartcache\0. I would have WinDoctor fix the problem and then I'd shut my computer down and turn it back on. It still wouldn't work. Eventually I deleted AIM and the problem was gone. The next day (today), I turned on my computer and sure enough my CD drives were not working. Again, I ran WinDoctor and it found an error this time in C:\Program Files\America Online 8.0\idb\bart\0. I let WinDoctor fix it, but it still doesn't work when I turn my computer back on. WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!

I had the same problem with my system, a p-4 vaio 2.8 gb laptop. the error phrase ATWORKRENDERING\SHELL\PRINTO\COMMAND, kept comming up. I searched all over the net no answers. So I removed aol instant messenger and the error disapeared next scan. it is an error related to all the extra shit that aol puts in their down loads, trying to suck you into using aol.just dump all AOL products and this really annoying error will disapear for ever. It was a real pain in the ass. Oh and one more thing, I dont miss AIM at all. If aol doesnt want people to fire them, and dump their products, they should have fixed this error, that has been plagueing norton users for over two years.

I found this same problem about two weeks ago. I have Windows ME and is only two years old and I placed Norton 2001 on this computer at the same time and have done regular automatic updates and have used it ever since then.Norton tells me there is a missing or invalid key. Invalid ActiveX/com. "ArWrokRendering\shell\PrintTo\command". Refers to C:\Windows\Application Data\Aim\bartcache\1. I also run Norton's and it says that it is fixed, but it is still there when Norton is ran again. Yes, there is no information anywhere on the web in the Google search for this problem.

I have same problem with "AtWorkRendering\shell\PrintTo\command, refers to an invalid command entry, C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\WIN40\0." Not surprisingly this is a folder containing HP stuff. I'm tempted to delete the folder and registry entries, but maybe I'll contact HP first. Don't hold your breath!

I was having the same problem for a very long time. I would let Norton WinDoctor fix it and the problem would show up again and again. I finally found the solution. Fix the problem by not letting WinDoctor do an automatic repair. While you are doing it yourself choose the option to delete the key. There is no risk because you can undo it.

I'm having a similar problem, but mines reffer to America Online 8.0\idb\bart\0With my research so far, I have concluded that the problem has nothing to do with ActiveX (well, maybe a tiny bit, my research hasn't finished yet). However,it is a refference to an invalid component. The component is there but lets say has wrong values or It could be a problem with Norton. I said that because it seems only Norton reports this error. Or maybe Norton IS that good to find such an error; if so, then MORE POWER TO NORTON!! solutions for now: Report your errors to Norton and to the company or builder of the applications. (for me that application company would be America Online). The reason for this is to notify them about this promblem. Never think that they must have get such a report already, just send them the report as much as you can to let them know the ergency (I don't know about you; but its quite hurtfull and mindboggling, if I should say so, to know that my baby has an error). Therefore in time they will fix the problem. Until they fix it, I will be looking for ways to fix it myself. I'm really sorry that I was unable to fix your problem at this time, but keep in mind that I'm working on it. As soon as I find that fix I will post it here.

Similar problem indicating c:\program files\ezface.... It seems to happen to you no matter what OS you are using and apparently isn't consistent with any one computer and the error is not committed to one location. Upon research for my problem, technically there is no EZFACE although when installed puts 40 entries in your registry. I did note that someone had an HP, their drivers can be bad. My pcs kept crasing due to the drivers and I finally had to uninstall and unplug it so it's only a standalone fax/copier now (reason for this is noted below). On XP, I created a restore point. Went to C:\Program Files\EZ Face\uninst and double clicked uninst. It then unstalled EZFACE and deleted the folder. I ran Norton Windoctor and the error was gone, it indicated 40 invalid registry files and one invalid shortcut which was expected. Repaired all. My computer works beautifully, no need to restore and hasn't interfered with my print capabilities, but I am not using an HP anymore. I know none of you had the same error I did, but at least it's something!

Same problem here.. and I assume it's somehow due to my HP OfficeJet - model 500.The exsct wording in norton is: "The key, "AtWorkRendering\shell\PrintTo\command" refers to an invalid command entry, "C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Dell\Alert\0." I am debating just going into the registry and deleting this entry...

No solution, just more or less identical symptoms, but my invalid command entry Program Files\WindowsUpdate\RTF\0. Wonder if a HP printer issue? Seemed to appear soon after installation of HP Deskjet 920c, which still has bidirectional LPT1 recognition issues - i.e. printer always out of ink. ken

I'm having the same problem and it doesn't seem to be a platform problem; I'm running SystemWorks on a Dell Dimension 400 (400 MHz Pentium II). I've searched the WWW and both the Symantec and Microsoft Knowledge Bases with no results. This is the only place I found anything regarding the problem and noone seems to be providing solutions, only reports of incidences occurring on their machines. I'm sure we're all running a common program that is causing this problem. Sorry I can't provide any solutions either! By the way, my error shows up: The Key, "AtWorkRendering\shell\PrintTo\command," refers to an invalid command entry, "C:\Program Files\Norton Web Services\UpgUPD\0."
