From: jv on 11/17/2002
I have an ABS with an 80gb HD,Pentium 4,256 Ram,running on Win98.
I dont get an error, because the monitor turns off and I get a weid sound from my PC. i dont think is because of heat because it happens alot with "warcraft3" after 30min or so and some times with "UT2003"(unreal turnament 2003)
Anything you can say to help me will be great.

Its a GeForce4 MX 440, I thought I had it right. I guess it's a good excuse to get a new and better vidcard.

I have not seen that one before. I will assume that it is related to the game that you are playing when it occurs.

I am still under the impression that you have a video card problem. I think I am going to take a quess but you probably have a GeForce 400 video card. If so, I would suspect the video card and feel comfortable in saying that its replacement will completely solve your problems. In addition, it may actually be defective if it is still exhibiting the same sound and monitor problems.

And turn down the acceleration a notch at a time to see what it takes for it to go away.
What is with this newer hardware? Can't handle the faster CPU speeds?

Definitely a hardware issue. You gotta assume that it has to do with the graphics card.

I would check out to see what other devices are sharing an IRQ with your video card. If it is a PCI card, I would remove the card and place in another PCI slot (farther away from original is the best).

In addition, I would get the most updated version of the driver for your video card.

If the computer is still running and the monitor just shuts off, then there is a problem with your video card and it may need to be replaced. It can also be a problem with improperly set refresh rate on the video card for the monitor. Make sure to check out your monitor's documentation to be positive that you are using an approved refresh rate.

Hope this helps.
