One more thing, Red Hat 7.1 is somewhat outdated they are up to 8.0 now, I suggest Mandrake because it's tools are much easier to use. If you upgrade your Red Hat it will most likely fix the problem and you will get a newer KDE and more programs, plus a copy of mozilla that has a lot of very good features.

By 7.1 I think you have Red Hat. If you are using KDE you may have clicked in one of the the lower corners on that little arrow that hides the taskbar, just click on it again. if that isn't it, worse case you could delete your ".kderc" file and KDE will rebuild it at startup, but do the below stuff first. That file would be in /home/username/.kderc just "move" it (rename) so you still have it for reference and reboot. mv /home/username/.kderc /home/username/.kderc-backup Make a new user first, in Red Hat the command is "setup" and in mandrake it is "setuptool", both of these can be run from terminal mode, it will let you set up a new user and it will add in all the KDE stuff to that user. To get to a terminal from KDE or a startup screen, press control and alt and F3 (or F1,F2,F4,F5 etc..) then log in as root to create a new user. I say this so that you can have a working copy of KDE and you can have a tool to fix your other desktop, and a working KDE as a backup. What happens when you press the "windows" key on your keyboard? (the one most likely between the control and alt keys) it should bring up the "start" menu. If you give me more info I can help further.
