 Intermittent crashes Post a Reply

I get hangs such as Page Faults (OE), system busy that stay busy and the worst - auto reboots where it just reboots out of the blue with no warning. Frequency of these events is almost ever time I turn my machine on. After I reboot, I usually can work for the rest of the session with out incident. Maybe I should just leave it on all the time, but I would like any advice at making my system more reliable. I have a AMD 333 K2 and I have heard that my be a problem. Maybe I should go back to Intel with a Celeron.

Any input would be much appreciated.

You don't write which Operating System you use.

If you run Windows 95, you should know, that your AMD is too fast for this OS (no joke!). AMD has produced a Patch, which you should download from their site. This patch is only for Windows 95, not for Windows 98!

Beside that special problem there could be other reasons for your crashes:
1. Is your processor overtakted?
2. Does the fan work properly?
3. Have you got the opportunity to change your RAM-Modules with modules of an other computer?
4. Are there any "signs" (exclamation or question marks) in Control Panel / System / Device Manager?
5. What Graphics/Video-Adapter do you use? How old are the drivers?

I have run a AMD in mine for quite a while now, it works great. You might want to go to AMD's site and see if there's a software patch for that processor, I don't remember if it's that one or another.

Read the last post I just did, talking about cleaning card's pins and pressing down IC's (I know there's a knowledgebase post about that also, maybe try a few keywords there). Bad dust is another cause of some problems. I had a cracked motherboard once, it would screw up with temp changes!

Really sounds like memory or other hardware problems, how old is this system?
