My CD Rom drive (40X) will "rev up" when a program disk is inserted and run okay for a while. It will then start a "stop and go" cycle of running just long enough (maybe two full seconds) to start reading the files on the disk, and then completely stop. Quite often, each of these cycles will enduce the "auto-run" file on the disk. When these cycles occur, it acts as though a buffer has been filled somewhere, but I can find nothing to adjust if it is indeed a buffer. Sometimes the disks will run fine. Sometimes, these cycles start as soon as a disk is inserted. Audio disks play fine. I have had no problems with those. I have also gotten the message "invalid drive specification" when I try to access the cd rom from DOS MODE. Thanks for your help!!!

I have had the same sort of problems with every CD ROM drive I have had. It's a little better in Win 98. I can normally access everything from windows explorer, but some times I have to insert the CD over again. You can always try re-installing the CD ROM's driver. : My CD Rom drive (40X) will "rev up" when a program disk is inserted and run okay for a while.
