Below is another of many, many stories of how microsoft can't even get a patch/fix right.
If they can't get their fixes to work right, what makes you think they have any chance to get their OS working right?
Use what little nurons you have left and start running Linux. It's easy and just like windows now. Get everyone you know to start using it and all this will go away, and your pocketbook $$$ will love you too, no more pay for every single little program you need.

And for those of you who need more little blurbs
"Smart people choose Linux"
"Linux is the new wave"
"Crashes are a thing of the past, Linux"

AND IT'S FREE!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft Outlook Express Patch Flawed

Users trying to install a new patch for a problem with Microsoft Corp.'s Outlook Express application
are reporting odd errors that are preventing them from installing the fix and protecting their PCs. The
patch doesn't seem to be able to recognize which version of Internet Explorer is installed on the
machine.

The patch, which fixes a vulnerability in the way Outlook Express 5.5 and 6 handle a specific error
condition, requires that users have Internet Explorer 6 running on their machines. Yet, several users
who are running the required browser version have said they are still getting an error message and
cannot install the patch.
