 Win2k - BSOD - Stop:0x0000001E..KMODE_EXCEPTIO Post a Reply
From: Bruce on 08/03/2001
Ok heres the full code I get:
Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC000000s, 0xA004E5CB, 0x00000000,0x6BF4DF88)
KMODE_Exception_NOT_Handled
Address A004E5C8 base at A0000000, DateStamp 3aa01b4 - win32k.sys

What the heck is this? I haven't been able to get a straight answer from Microsoft regarding this error, and the closest thing to a fix seems to be something they want you to pay a tech support line before they give it to you. Also, in MS knowledge base, the errors close to this are all referencing NT4, I have Win2k Pro!

This BSOD comes up when I'm using realplayer, quicktime (got a kmixer.sys error using quicktime also), bryce and sometimes certain web sites. I have a home built computer; evga geoforce2 mx 400 video card, SB Awe64 sound card (legacy), 256 megs sdram, FIC VA-501A mb, Adaptec scsi aha 2940UW card, AMD 550 mhz cpu and all of the latest drivers and system updates (Winnt 2000 sp2, DX8, etc.).

Does anyone have a clue as to whats going on here???

I make a lot of electronic music, with a lot of obscure cards, peripherals, etc. As such, I have experienced this problem often.

A lot of times, when I start to get these bluescreen codes, I decide it's more hassle than it is worth to figure out which device is causing the problem, etc.

The last time this happened to me, I just sent my hard drive to http://www.drivefish.com to extract my data, so I could just start with a freshly configured system. It's a pretty good deal. Good support, no hassle, great price (flat rate). I highly recommend that anyone that is experiencing this particular problem get their data recovered from this site.

Well...This topic is heavily discussed in other forums.

It MIGHT be a virus, it MIGHT be IRQ issues, it MIGHT be ram trouble (if U got some OEM ram that your card mobo doesn't like, it MIGHT be a voltage problem and lot's and lot's of other things.

One thing most have in common that has these problem is that they have a NVIDIA screencard in some form. Maybe they are shit? lol

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Seach for this excact phrase on www.google.com and U get a bunch of things to look at.

For experts : http://www.osr.com/ntinsider/1999/kmode_except.htm

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL troubles:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmd_stp_oweb.asp

And this problem is NOT solely related to WIN2k......I run WinXP and it crashes like a mofo when I run games and it reboots my PC.

Going home soon to try some of the things listed above. Installing the latest aspi32.sys driver sounds like an easy thing to start with (lmfao).

Let me know if ya find a solution :)

This is NOT a virus, and anyone who says that knows nothing about virii. And it is probably not hardware either because it happens to me with a newly built system (the system worked fine during the assembly). I had an NVIDIA TNT2 (worked fine), now I have a GEFORCE4 (many BSODs), so the bad news: it may be an Nvidia driver failure down the system level. When this happens 2k/xp is a bitch (same happened to me months ago with an older AT/ATX VIA motherboard), so the possible solutions: disable all DirectX 3d enhancements (AA, Filtering, etc.) in display settings, advanced tab, or upgrade (/downgrade!) nvidia drivers. Driver based issues are VERY hard to solve with 2k/xp, believe me - so no easy answer like decrease volume, or close some opened app.

Mine is KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED on nv4_disp.dll BSOD.

I've been having this problem for about 6 months now and have been working the whole time on trying to fix it. My set up is a VIA P4PB-400-FL motherboard with a P4 chipset, 512Mb RAM and a NVIDIA Ti5800 with 128Mb RAM running Windows 2000 Server. I previously had a NVIDIA Ti4200 on the same box with the same problems.

All games work fine, even if played all day long and including UT2003, SOF2, JK2, except:
1) BF1942
2) Star Wars Galaxies

Both these games are guaranteed to BSOD after a very short while although there are things I can do to slow down the occurences such as switching of AGP write caches in the BIOS and lowering resolutions and quality (the amount of work the GPU has to do.)

I always ensure I have the latest BIOS flashes and mobo flashes from VIA, the latest 4-in-1 drivers from them too, Latest W2K patches, latest NVIDIA Detonator drivers, etc. and that I am virus free. I've even gone as far as a clean install then installing some of these games to test it out and lowering from 8x to 4x. Also, FYI, my machine is not overclocked in any way and performs flawlessly under all torture tests including Prime95.

I can assure you that the problem is not a virus. Whoever suggested that to you bluntly doesn't know what they are talking about. Having read this thread, I can see it's not just my mobo (my initial suspect) as so many manufacturers and other chipsets have the same problem. So, where does that leave us? The answer is I don't really know.

It seems to be an NVIDIA<->Microsoft W2K bug but if so, most W2K server players of 1942 would have it. Maybe it's a NVIDIA/M$ bug that only relates to certain families of chipsets?

Usually its something to do either with ACPI or with drivers or with hardware failuire.
Usually drivers / software causes it.

Sometimes if you have too many devices on one IRQs then it also might contribute.

It's definatly something with the Nvidia Display drivers. We run Compaq EVO D500's with the Nvidia Vanta Chipset. Our Admin pushed the latest video updates from Compaq as well as the new Windows 2000 SP4 patch. Back reving the video seemed to clear up the 4 dozen BSOD's we had in the last week.

I get the same 3 errors as well during startup, (mostly the Stop0x01E, KMODE_EXCEPTION), after I added another 512MB to my AMD Athlon 133*13 system.
The total memory is 1Gb.
After I removed a 256Mb module, and increased the pagefile.sys to more than 1G, with the total system memory 768Mb, it works fine now.
It seem the other configuration isn't important in my case. Just the memory can't go up to 1G.
Also it may be my mainboard's DIMM socket 3 is defect, I don't know.
So strange that so many with different system config has the same problem.
The same is AMD and Win2kpro.

i get the same garbage...I've had it for quiet awhile...I've got home built Dual Intel 600's..Creative GeForce2 GTS 64mb, Creative Audigy Platnium currently...

It most happens when I do Voice over yahoo or webcam over MSN..generally heavy multimedia stuff (voice and webcam or one or the other)...

I've upgraded to the geforce2 from a Matrox Mystique 4mb card w/ creative 3dfx card, thinking the mystique had its day, no help...upgraded from SB AWE32 to Audigy Plat, no help... and upgraded from dual PII 266's to Dual PIII 600's, no help...

I did read somewhere that gameport might have something to do with it, so I disabled that..we'll see what happens...and also read that lan wake up, modem wakeup, may have something to do with it...

I'm getting this exact same problem from my PNY Geforce 4 MX 420 card. It doesn't give me any problem in Windows 98 but causes a lot of trouble in Windows 2000. I know for a fact that a virus isn't on my computer, nor a backdoor or anything of the such. This I do believe is a hardware driver issue and a Win 2K problem. I've e-mailed the makers of my mainboard and video card, but they are clueless. Times like this make me wish that 3DFX was still around with the Voodoo cards. I've never had problems running those and think they looked better than GL also. *sigh*

I've been getting the same exact error. I'm running NT Workstation on a Micron PII 450 mHz with an Awe32 sound card and the Matrox G400 8mb video card. I know this may sound strange but when troubleshooting this particular problem, I discovered that there maybe an issue with the PCM modules on the SB16 sound card device(all models). I say this because I found that if the volume on your speakers is set too high when booting or in the middle of any sound playback or recording you will get this particular stop error. Try decreasing the sound volume on your speakers if you have that option. If not, boot into safe mode (notice that when you look at your volume properties the 'wave' is muted). Decrease the 'wave' volume level and reboot. Worked for me, hope it works for you

Same here, and I see some eerie similarities to your computer. AMD K6-2 500, SIS 8mb onboard video (and motherboard), and I added my own soundcard.

I only get this error when high amounts of CPU and/or Memory are being used. Namely converting my CD tracks to MP3, or viewing Fox's "24" website. In other words, some form of multimedia is going on. Normal activities such as playing MP3s are fine.

I noticed that I had SIX DEVICES on IRQ 9...and short of disabling devices..I can't change the IRQs. I could get it down to three devices and this seemed to help (but not fix) the situation.

I too am virus-free.

Is everyone here using an AMD chip and/or has an SIS motherboard? Does everyone here have multiple devices on the same IRQ?

Hi there!
Good to see I'm not alone with this, but unfortunatly I wasn't able to fix it. I had the BSOD with ntoskrnl.exe shown at the end. The system didn't even start. The computer kept rebooting over and over. After spending several hours trying and sweating I finally decided to give up and type format C: in the recovery console....
I suppose that something along with NFS4 killed my video driver (GeForce 2 MX). I'll never try to play racing games on W2k again, I promise....
Greetings from Germany,
Lars

Hi all, I too receive a similar problem with the blue screen. My code reads:
: : : : : Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC000000s, 0xBA70EF38, 0x00000000,0xE04A8FA38)
: : : : : KMODE_Exception_NOT_Handled
: : : : : Address BA70EF38 base at BA70E00, DateStamp 3bc772b7 - nv4_disp.dll

The nv4_disp.dll is my geforce2 mx400 64mb display driver. Does anybody have a clue about this issue?
I bought this video card at Fry's Electronics. I am running Windows 2000 w/ an AMB Athlon XP 1700 chipset.
It crashes and gives me the blue screen when i was viewing certain websites using "flash" and while i was playing starcraft.

: If you're getting the error in win32k.sys you have a virus. This explains how to get rid of it. If you don't have this BSOD in win32k.sys, like me, well I'm out of luck as it occurs randomly with 2 other messages, BAD_POOL_CALLER and IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

: : I am getting the same message!!!!! in the exact same address for win32k.sys. I have a home built system with a Gigabyte GA5AX MB, 128 MB PC133 Ram, a SIS 8mb video card, some cheap sound card, an AMD K6-2 550 MHz processor with Windows 2000. I've scanned for viruses, defragged, checked microsoft (they seem to think it's some virus) and I have no information on this at all. If anyone knows how to fix this, please email me Khayman999@hotmail.com
