This could be caused by many differant things. You may want to look into your memory and processor, they could be going down hill. It may be a heat issue, so check to make sure all of your case fans are running properly. If they are, try running the system with the case open and a fan blowing in on it. You may also just try reseating your motherboard connections, or pulling out differant pieces of hardware and running it to see if that resolves the issue. If you have a network card, pull it to see how it goes. There a ton of other things that could be causeing this, both hardware and software. If none of the above work, try ending task on everything in the back ground, then reload the operating system if necessary. If it still doesn't work I would then suggest replacing the Memory and then the processor if necessary.

Now for more specific issues.
If you have:
An AMD Athlon, it's probably a heat issue. You can see the website of your computer's manufacturer for BIOS updates to correct this.

A Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! with Windows ME, look for a program running in the background called devldr16.exe or devldr32.exe. If you have it there you can end task on it each time you start your system, or take it out of the startup.

An OEM version of Gigabyte's GA7DX motherboard it's also a heat issue, refer to the manufacturer of the system for BIOS upgrades.

A Tyan Tazer motherboard it's a problem with the AGP. Go to bios, enter the chipset features, lower the AGP Apeture size to 8M and set AGP 4x to disabled.

A problem with Windows ME on shutdown go to ftp://ftp.micronpc.com/support/allplat/os. There you will want to download a file named msshutdownupdtme.exe. Once you have it downloaded, double click on the executable file, and extract it to c:\update. When it's done extracting go in to that directory and run the .exe file listed there.

any more questions, let me know
