: Operating system Windows ME, MS Word 2000 : On startup of word error message occurs. : Then MS Word is shutdown. Uninstalling word and reinstallation does not correct issue. : use windows ME file search feature and search for : all occurrances of normal.dot you may also find : a ~ormal.dot or something similar when you search : delete all occurances of normal.dot and restart word : it should start ok. This appears to be caused by : a corruption of the normal.dot template file. On the system I had the problem with, the user had tried to open an attachment from its location on a hotmail account instead of downloading it first to their system and opening it from the local machine. Hope this helps
