These scanners are not the best and are quite outdated. I have had similar problems with one I owned in the past, but it was a 1200dpi scanner.Make sure that the lock key is removed. You will see it on the underside of the scanner.
Also, I believe that your scanner only supports parrallel and not USB. Is this correct? If not, then you may have a problem associated with the USB.
Can you see the scanner progress across the entire image? This would give an indication of whether or not it is a problem with the scanner or a software issue.
What program are you using to scan the image in? Is is possible that you are not correctly cropping the image after running a preview?
This should get you started. Feel free to post back with more information and if my solutions do not help.
