Did you want to run with the 'imaged' version or did you want to go with the missing hal problem?I am not sure how you tried to replace the 'missing hal' problem. Also, I am unaware of your previous post so I may ask some dumb questions.
A hal file is not extracted from the install CD as 'hal.dll'. The file name depends on what type of system you have. See KBA #237556. This will help you when trying to restore a HAL.
Also, please consider that the Boot.ini could be damaged or MBR.
As far as the 'imaged file', you might want to clue me in on what you are using to accomplish this. Are you using Ghost? This I might have little experience with and can probably help you out. Please post back if this is the case.
Hope this gets you on the right track. Feel free to post back.
