 Software error messages on Startup in W95 Post a Reply
From: Mark on 10/15/2002
Help. I have a Compaq 2200 Presario desktop W95 that gives the following three messages on startup that require an "OK" mouse click:

1. Y! Initialization Error
CoCreate Instance for the MyYahooDLL failed.

2. Registry Error (White X on red BG)
Cannot import C:\ProgramFiles\YahooMessenger\ViewInfo.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.

3. WFindV32 (white X on red BG)
This version of Dr Solomon's FindVirus is for evaluation purposes only. The evaluation period for this product was two months. This version has now expired and the program will no longer run.

What gives??

for the first problem;

what about if i wrongly uninstalled it..and the uninstaller cannot be initialized through Add/Remove Program?
Is there any way i could go straight to the registry editor and remove the message from there?

OK. So after highlighting and clicking Add/Remove Dr Solomon's FindVirus, the following message appears: Uninstaller errors: An error occurred while trying to remove Dr. Solomon's FindVirus. Uninstallation has been canceled. (OK click)

And after highlighting and clicking Add/Remove Yahoo Messenger, the following message appears: Wise Uninstall. Could not open Install.Log file. (OK click)

So now what? Mark

For the first two error messages that you are getting, you will need to reinstall Yahoo Messanger. If you are not using the server, then simply uninstall and you will stop getting the error messages.

To uninstall a program, go to your Control Panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel). Select the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon. Find Yahoo Messanger on the list and click the 'remove' button on the bottom. That should do it.

For your last problem, well, that is some old version of Dr. Solomon's virus scanning software. I would uninstall this software as well and go get Norton's Antivirus 2003 and install that on your computer. These days, you need to have a very good virus solution. Norton gives you a full year of virus updates for the price you pay for the software. After that, it is an additional $9 a year for virus updates. However, this is only for virus updates. The software will never stop detecting viruses. But you want to have the most up-to-date virus definitions to combat new viruses that come out everyday (don't believe me, do a search on 'Bugabear' in your Internet Browser).

Hope this helps. Feel free to post back.
