 VREDIR error Post a Reply
From: Lana on 09/05/2002
I have Windows ME and when I go try to open 2 files from the same program Word or Excel I get these errors:
Exception OE at 0028:C0066296 in VxD VREDIR(01)+0000459A. This was called from 0028:C0033B04 in VxD IFSMGR(01)+000010B4. It may be possible to continue normally.

This happens 8-10 times a day. Please help.

I have similar problems which seem to stem from Q278558, partially pasted below. There is a hotfix which Microsoft wants money before they are willing to give out. I am disabled and don't have the money right now. Does anybody already have the hotfix? Maybe it would solve your issue also?

Hello

I'm looking for the new password for the file Q293793_ENU_i386_MID42758_zip.exe

Microsoft are going to try and charge me £45 for support, and it's going to take ~ 1 year to crack the password.

Cheers

Another good reason to stop using Microsoft products!

If there is a bug it's fixed shortly and the fix is always a FREE no strings download.
Why put up with crashes and buggy software?
Spreadsheet, word, browsers, fast internet connections, what more could you want?
Use Linux for work and MS for the kids game machine where it belongs.

I found the solution. Call Microsoft Toll Free 1-800-936-4900 Give them the Knowledge Base Article #293793 They will provide you with an email that contains links and passwords for the hotfix. This is all free of charge. However, if the hotfix doesn't fix the problem and you need to call back, there will likely be a charge for further services. Hope this helps!

Has anyone found a current password or an unzipped version? I'm trying to avoid having to pay M$ for a support call.

When using Windows Explorer (ME) I almost always get the error msg 0028:C0064DED in VxD VREDIR(01) + 000030F1 called from 0028:C0033B04 in VxD IFSMGR(01) + 000010B4. I have also gotten Lana's error msg when opening an Acrobat and Word doc in Explorer.

My SONY VAIO is 18 months old and after a year of this problem, the hard drive crashed and I had to get a new one (under warranty). The store restored all the SONY s/w and I loaded Office 2000 and Norton again. Immediately, the problem recurred.

How do I fix this? Thanks for your help!

I ran into a similar problem in WinXP and Office XP. As a temporary fix you can open seperate versions of Excel and Word for each document. Check out the following article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q293793
Microsoft has a pay fix, but you may be able to find the file on the net. Good Luck.
