Win ME: Word 2000
freezes when trying to open; press ctrl-alt-del and get error "system resources are dangerously low, close application... winword not responding" something like that, then have to reboot system to unfreeze. checked system resources and sitting at about 90% free so that is not the problem. Have uninstalled and re-installed Word 2000 a bunch of times but no solution yet. Any help would be appreciated.

HI everyone,I solved my problem. I was told to delte all Normal.dot files from my hard drive. Then re open windows....problem solved!!! It seems that some how word had saved a never ending normal.dot file and it takes up all the resources. By deleting it and reopening WORD 200O, WORD simple creates a new problem free normal.dot file. Hope this solves your problem too. take care Mal

Thanks for the repsonse I guess we all still have a problem. It is interesting to see that some one else is having the same problem on the same system. Dell Dimension 2100 running ME.We'll just keep looking for an answer I guess!!

I get same problem.... have removed MSN, "repaired" Word 2000 for install CD, then completely removed Word and re-installed, all to no avail. Othe things like games and IE run reliably, so cannot believe anything serious wrong with ME or hardware, and I have plenty of resources avail.Seems this Micosoft stuff is bug ridden, yet I presume they will charge for an upgrade to XP and claim that fixes it! Should we sue em instead? Could I have a strange virus just hitting Word, or am I a wally

I have the same problem "mal" does on a Dell Dimension running Windows ME and Word 2000, with plenty of RAM, hard drive space, etc. I can open Word 2000 Documents once by double clicking, but cannot open from within the program, and cannot have, therefore, more than one document open at a time. Did you get any help?Thanks,
