 I get "VWIN32(05) + 00000BF4 Error: 0E : 0028 Post a Reply
From: John on 04/15/2002
The above error occurs when I install most pieces of software. For example it happens with all games, camera software, and IBM Viavoice recognition software. It happens when the installation wizard or equivalent is loading up.

If it is any help, it also happens when you load up minesweeper. If you move your mouse over the little minesweeper playing area the error message comes up BUT ONLY WHEN THE MOUSE TOUCHES THE PLAYING SQUARE. I only bought the computer today. I formatted the entire hard drive on the retailer's (Carrera SSC) instructions but that did nothing to fix anything apart from waste my entire afternoon. Please help!!!!

Ok was helping a friend out with Compaq Presario that was having this exact message (and a bunch of spyware).

Here's how I resolved it.
1)Make sure you have the latest driver for the Intel Video Chip for this model. You can get it from the Intel web site:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=18&strTypes=DRV%2CARC&ProductID=798&OSFullName=Windows*+98+SE&submit=Go%21

2)Make sure you have the number of colors NOT set to 256colors. I used 32-Bit instead and that seemed to work ok.

3)If this still doesn't work, try changing the IRQ setting for the Video in the BIOS to 11. After I did this the error went away completely so I think this is key. Note: you will have to change another set of devices to IRQ 5 or 3 so that not more than 2 devices share the same IRQ. I didn't have to change the IRQ's in the OS since this wasn't a reinstall of Windows, but you might have to.

Hope this helps.

It appears that Carole told Negotiator what to do but what was it? My problem started when changing ATI graphics drivers. Can anyone help?

I'm getting the exact same message as Rob. The problem arose last night while trying to install a new ATI Catalyst driver for my ATI Radeon 7200. Now I can't even reinstall my old driver. I would be most grateful for any assistance that you can provide me. I sat at the computer for over three hours last night trying to rectify this.

I'm glad I found this site! I have a similar problem with my Compaq 5441 running windows 98se. In Sept. 2002 I installed a ATI Radeon 7000 PCI card. All was well until I tried to update the driver. Just as the install was finishing I got: "A Fatal Exception 0E Has Occured At 0028:C02A20CC In VXD VWIN32(05)+ 00000BF4. The Current Application Will Be Terminated."

Since then I have not been able to install the driver for my ATI card. The install was aborted prematurely. I tried to clean everything out. Uninstalled what I could using Uninstaller and manually deleted .dll's. Still no success. I'm ready to restore my OS from the Compaq restore CD.

I will look for nview but don't know if I have that.

Next I went to install a SoundBlaster card and that install just locked up my computer during the install. So I probably have a bunch of SB or Creative Labs stuff in there now as well.

Ugh, any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Rob

I got this error from using the character map, but only when I moved the mouse over that window. I got it immediately when trying to use the clipboard viewer. Freecell did not crash, but when it came up it would hang, the title bar would be corrupted, and the pointer would change into an hourglass when I moved it over the window.

I used msconfig and unchecked NVIEW under the startup tab, and all is fine. I've also noticed that the "Windows 98" banner in the start menu is no longer corrupted.

I found out also that one shouldn't click on the nVidia icon in the control panel even after disabling nView with msconfig. This somehow causes the same problem even if one clicks the "Disable nView" button. Use msconfig and don't touch the nVidia icon!

I have been all over the internet looking for VWIN32(05) And found nothing until now! Thank you!!! To the one who owns and operates this website, and to the people here who said that (Nview is the problem). I have formated and reinstalled windows so many times it aint even funny. The errors I was having is a blue screen saying A fatal exception has occurred at 0028:C0298CCin VXD Vwin32 (05)+00000BF4. It would freeze up just moving the mouse, or installing anything is when I would get the blue screen. I called people around here that work on computers and they say Bring it in and I will look at it! it sounds like memory, or it could be your CPU, Oh yeah! I charge 60 - 70 dollars an hour!!!! NOT!!!!!!! I dont think so!!!!!!! Nview is the problem so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This error occurs if you have more than one graphic adapter. Ie: if you downloaded nVidia driver, check that you don't have the nView program running.

Refers to Microsoft Database querry: (Q190915)

Hope it helps

Similar to John, If I try to play Minesweeper or Freecell it blue screens. I have reformatted the disk and re-loaded 98Me twice and immediately after this it can't play the games Microsoft has loaded. No help on Microsoft's Technet in the support link to Microsoft. I can't seem to get this fixed.
