I have seen a similar error in the past related to WIn98 and the removal of network componets. What OS are you using, and what major changes have you made to your system before this error started happening. Did you install any Norton Utilities type programs, or uninstall any software you may have had on the system? The user.exe file is linked to your registry and any major changes to the system will sometimes corrupt this file or the registry.: Whenever I try to open "Internet Explorer" or "My Computer" this error comes up. These are the details: : EXPLORER caused a general protection fault : in module USER.EXE at 000a:00002730. : Registers: : EAX=00027fdc CS=179f EIP=00002730 EFLGS=00000202 : EBX=00020308 SS=605f ESP=000088b2 EBP=01ad88c6 : ECX=000270c8 DS=53ff ESI=00007fdc FS=59ef : EDX=81790000 ES=08c7 EDI=00027070 GS=0000 : Bytes at CS:EIP: : 66 83 7c 75 00 74 53 9a ba 05 c7 17 8b d8 8e c2 : Stack dump: : 00068944 894401ad 88e00157 70701d5e 7fdc0002 0cdf88d8 00000000 06940000 0da00030 88f4605f 17d710d0 00000000 06940000 0da00030 01ad0006 00008944
