Winword caused an invalid page faulte in modume ms Post a Reply
From: Sue on 04/26/2002
I can no longer bring up a word document. When I try it says "Winword caused an invalid page fault in module ms09.dll at 017f:309051a6. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling office 2000. Everything else in Office2000 appears to work. Can someone help me out? Heading into exams and need to fix this.

Thanks
Sue

Deleting the normal.dot file is all that is necessary to fix most Word problems. The next time you open Word, it will create a new normal.dot file

Fixing the mso9.dll is an easy fix. For $35 Microsoft will be gald to have a tech help ya. The dll is use to start up winword in MSOffice 2000. It's a bug that MS refuses to fix because they make much more $$$ in using tech help or selling you a new computer.

Would love to help you, but if I did, MS would have to kill me.

"winword.exe /a" works - allows word to open - but there is no trace of normal.dot on my machine... ohhh! Turn 'hidden and system files' on and there it is!

related info:

MS09 causes problems in Excel for me. My normal.dot gets corrupted easily. When it does it will also cause Excel to abort when I run or edit macros, close before saving, or open large or numerous xls files (I push Excel very hard). Replacing the normal.dot usually works for me, too, but I find that regular maintenance of temp and old files helps, too.

As a Dell tech, just deleting Normal.dot and rebooting, has fixed most if not ALL word problems. Just click on search or find, then click files and folder, and in the Named box type Normal.dot, and delete what ever it finds and reboot, that has been know to fix most word problems.

:
: I get the error message exactly as described below, but when closing Word. It appears(in patches - may occur 5 or 6 times then be OK for a while) either when Word is closed and I've returned to My Documents or when My Documents is closed and returned to Desktop. Can't find any sequence of events in common which might be the trigger except that it seems to occur when a document of a different size has been open and I return to my usual set up.

: (Windows 98, Word 2000)

: Any bright ideas would be most gratefully received.

: : Sue, I had the identical symptom except the address of the fault was 0177:309051a6. I tried damned near everything, uninstalling/reinstalling office, manually removed all registry entries for office, etc., I finally found out that the normal.dot file located in the c:\windows\application data\microsoft\templates folder had somehow become corrupted. I got a copy of the normal.dot file from another PC and this resolved the problem. One way to find if this file is corrupt is to run winword with the /a switch which in essense bypasses the loading of normal.dot. You will see that when you use the /a option, winword opens just fine. You should for sure replace the normal.dot file at that point. My normal.dot file is 27kb but the corrupted file grew to 480KB. Good luck and I hope this solves your problem.
