Excel caused error in VBE6.DLL Post a Reply
From: Ed on 04/30/2002
When I try to open an Excel file (~ 1.4 MBytes), I get the error -

"Excel has caused an error in VBE6.DLL Excel will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer"

Tried that, tried loading Microsoft SR-1A and then SR-2 packs. No difference. I use Windows ME with Office 2000 professional.

I can open the files using Microsoft Excel XP version.

Any ideas?

Hi I just encountered this problem as well. What I did was make sure that the computer is updated with the latest MS service Packs. I was using Office 2K on Windows XP. The Excel file still did not work until I applied XP SP 1, after that the file opened with no problems. Hope this helps ...

Replace Vbe6.dll
To replace the Vbe6.dll file, follow these steps.
1.  NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
2.  Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
3.  In the Search for files or folders named box, type Vbe6.dll, and then click Search Now.
4.  In the Search Results box, right-click Vbe6.dll, and then click Rename.
5.  Type Vbe6.old, press ENTER, and then click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the extension change. Close the Search Results dialog box.
6.  Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
7.  Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
8.  On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office (depending on how you installed Word), and then click Add/Remove.
9.  Click Repair Office, and then follow the instructions to repair errors in your Office installation.

This will install a new copy of Vbe6.dll.
