W98setup caused a General Protection Fault Post a Reply
From: Les on 09/25/2002
I'm trying to reload Windows98 back onto a 100MHz Acer Aspire. I get to the blue Windows98 Setup Screen and receive two error messages:

W98 setup caused a General Protection Fault in Module KRNL386.exe @ 0001:50CA
and
W98 setup caused a General Protection Fault in Module user.exe @ 0001:40B6

any help would be appreciated

w98setup caused a general protection fault error in module KRNL386.exe at...........
this error caused when the windows 98 is reinstalled because of the RAM. There may be any damaged in the RAM. Replace the RAM and try to install the win98, definetly no error this time

Please see KBA Q209321 on Microsoft Support Website:

I guess there is a fix for this but you may consider burning a copy to a CD and buying yourself a inexpensive detachable CDROM for your laptop.
