Using system recovery on a friends HP 512n, which uses an orginal OS image on a normally inaccessible partition, i received an ominous error message, that it could not continue due to an error:
stop 0x0000007a win32k.sys-address BF8FA278 BF800000 kernel_data_inpage_error
After a reboot i recvd. the message of a missing or corrupted file, windows root>\system32\hal.dll
I have seen much advice from the long thread on your thread
BUT this has no OS or Restore CD from which to boot from (though i am going to look into buying one from HP), nor will the Sys. Rec. offer any such options as are mentioned in the thread. So i was wondering if there is any way i can fix the Boot.ini (fixmbr) without it (if that be the problem). I have a madbboot floppy, but despite being set to boot first from that it will not, nor from a XP boot disk. I can get it to boot from the Ultimate CD boot disk (www.ultimatebootcd.com), if any of the many tools in it might work, and do have both bootable knoppix and ubuntu disks.
Thank God for your help.
