 Normal.Dat Word 2003 Problem Post a Reply
From: Marty on 12/07/2004
The problem I am having is that when I exit up Word 2003 on my machine, I get an error message that says "There has been a change to the global template. The normal.dat file has been changed. Do you want to save it?" And no matter if you save it or not, you cannot reopen the file, or any file for that matter, the next time you use Word. I have searched the Microsoft message boards and they say it is a Norton AntiVirus issue, but they only describe how to do it with Norton personal editions, and I am using the Corporate Edition licensed to my school. I called Microsoft and they will not help me without making me pay a large fee for phone tech support. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem and knew the solution to it. Thanks alot.

I deleted normal.dat and let MS Word rebuild it. The next time I opened MS Word, it rebuilt the file and I was able to resume functions properly.
