Dell Inspiron 2500 screen is black after startup Post a Reply
From: Morgan on 10/21/2004
I just installed windows xp service pack 2 and now my laptop screen is black on load-up. The Dell Inspiron screen appears, as does the start of the Windows XP home edition screen, but after that, the screen goes black. This blows...any help would be much appreciated.

My Inspiron 2500 did the same thing. Check out this thread @ Dell for further info. . .

The apparent workaround right now appears to be shutting the laptop down rather than doing a restart. I uninstalled SP2 twice (which ultimately required the re-installation of XP) as I could not sort this crap out. The third go round appears to have worked.

Your mileage of course may vary.

Best of luck as Dell & Micro$oft don't seem to be getting anywhere.

I'm getting exactly the same problem. In fact the computer is working, it's just that the screen doesn't display anything. If you press the "Windows" key to the left of Alt, then "u", then "r", the computer will restart. If you press F8 while XP is reloading, you get the MS boot options menu and you can select "VGA mode", which works.

I've tried updating the BIOS to the latest version and installing new video drivers from the Intel site, bit nothing has worked. Right now, I'm uninstalling SP2.
