Are you on a network? Try this if you are:1)On the taskbar, click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
2)In Control Panel, double-click Network .
3)In the Network dialog box, on the Access Control tab, click Share-level access control , and then click OK .
4)Click Yes to restart the computer.
Otherwise, Microsoft has a KBA Q238096 that covers all possible win98 shutdown issues that can occur and how to fix them. There are a lot of software/hardware combinations that Microsoft has confirmed that cause the buggy wind98 to crash on shutdown. However, the most common scenario is a computer with win98 that has been added to a network. You can post back if you are not on a network and give me more specifics to the error message and I might come up with another solution.
