Excel: The instruction at xxx referenced memory at Post a Reply
From: Stu on 06/07/2004
Evening,

I was working on an important workbook last week ...all fine

Tried to open this today and get the following message

The instruction at "0x3005c6a0" referenced memory at "0x00000018". The memory could not be "written".

Click ok to terminate the program
Cancel to debug

both end up needing Excel to be shut down.

..things tried todate...

Disable macros ...gives error message just after you say no
Copy, re-name file ...still same
Sending to someone else to open ...ditto
re-booting no change
virus checking ..no change
Using shift key ..no change
linking via Access - for the data - but wizard says no

I have been having to 'kill' the excel.exe remaining, via Ctrl-Alt-Del

Even de-fraged as it sounded memory orientated
other excel file work ...although the last back up for this workbook would take a couple of days to get back up to speed, if this one is not recoverable'

It's beat the fabulous people at UtterAccess....but they (thanks Martin) directed me here to see if you could help...

System: This is Excel 2000 running on Windows 2000

Any ideas greatly appreciated???

Many thanks

Stu :~)
