 you must Explorer won't Close Properly Post a Reply

I have windows 98 2nd edition. And a dell Dimension desk top. Internet Explorer won't close unless you press ctrl+alt+del. I have completely un-installed it, by over-riding, and I have updated it as well. I have all the microsft updates. I have tried repairing it. I have run AVG and Avast! anti- virus. And they pick up nothing. Explorer also runs much slower than usual. Registery Mechanic also can't complete scans, neither can avast. I have also ran scan-disk, defragmenter, and disk clean up. Nothing is showing up, deleted all cookies and temp internet files everytime I'm online. If anyone has any suggestions, please e-mail me at: there_are_stoners@yahoo.com
This is my work computer, can't afford for anything to go wrong. :( Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
~A soon to be airborn PC

hmm,sounds like the theres an attached program running in the background.{like a plugin for explorer. i would try running "firefox"{free browser} to see if theres any speed difference in the 2 browsers. if that doesnt help, try a search for "disk keeper". its a replacment for the windows defrag utility that actually lets you manually define the file table for windows,and is the only utility that can defrag "paging file"{the part of the hard drive that windows sets aside for "virtual memory". if the paging file is corrupt,it will cause explorer to slow down or crash.{it runs out of system resorces to run}
i hope that helps=)
