No red on 15" Compaq FS740

I came home after work and my girl said there was something wrong with the computer; the colors were messed up. Immediately I notice that the red was showing as black. It's a 3 year old 15" Compaq FS740. Hoping it wasn't the monitor, I plugged in a different one to the same computer. The colors showed fine. I plugged the Compaq back in and thought the pins in the adapter might be damaged. They were all there and sraight. While it was unplugged I saw that even the 'no signal' screen was missing red, so it's obviously not hardware problems. Any ideas or info..? Much thanks.

Your statement that on a different monitor "the colors showed fine" indicates that the FS740 is at fault. Color monitors display colors by mixing the output of 3 "color guns", red, green, and blue. It sounds like the red gun in your monitor is dead. To fix this will cost more than the monitor is worth.
