Had similar symptoms on a Toshiba Satellite 35DVD but 019F inplace of 018F and MS Works on ME. Crashed most times a document was opened in Word 2000 always when a second document was opened. Thought it was spyware, was some on there but got rid and still got the error. Deleting normal.dot seemed to do the trick.

Thanks

michael, who replied to this post in jan 2004, was totally on the money. i've had similar prob, been unable to open any word files without getting this error and having to restart. found the normal.dot files and deleted them. now works great!

thanks michael!

Michael,

Yes I have MS Office installed. I get this error message as soon as I turn on the computer and it starts going. I do not even get to a normal screen like I should. A blue screen comes up with the error and it's stuck there. I then have to turn the computer off, then it comes up in safe mode. The troubleshooter comes up when I get to safe mode and I just end up shutting it down and waiting ten seconds. When I restart, then it normally goes to our desktop like it should. People have told me it is because of our Norton AntiVirus 2004.

Thanks,
Kim

1. Do you have MS Office installed? Does the error happen when you start Word?
2. If so: Find & delete the normal.dot file that Word uses (Note: Your personal formatting options etc. might be gone!).
3. Should work now.
