ScanDisk will not run Post a Reply
From: Kismet on 08/16/2003
I have Windows ME installed and although my computer seems to be running as normal, I have never been able to run ScanDisk. Each time I get a message which says 'ScanDisk has started 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive ...' and then my computer crashes. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem, or how I can find out what program(s) might be running in the background and effecting it? I have searched through the FAQ and found a similar query, however I was hoping that there might be an alternative other that reformatting, as my HDD is quite new, and this promblem also arose with my previous HDD making me think that it is more to do with whatever is writing to C:\ rather than the disk itself. Thanks.

I have tried safe mode but it does not solve the problem. I can run defrag in safe mode which is a plus. I even tried running is DOS mode and doing a CHKDSK command. No luck.......

Hi

When running scandsisk its important to close everything down in the systray but for you its a better option to start the system up in safemode and do your scandisk from there.
