WinFax 10.0 on Win2k Error: FAXMNG32.exe has gener Post a Reply
From: Douglas on 07/17/2003
I am trying to run WinFax 10.0 on Win2k.
Everytime I run any of its programs, I get...

*filename*.exe "has generated errors and will be closed by Windows."

I looked on-line for every possible thing I could do. I have removed the program, deleted any folders, files, or registry keys related to Symantec WinFax 10.0. Almost all combinations of reinstalling, overwriting, and restarting.

FYI, Winfax was crashing on me whenever I went to the Outbox. I used Rebuild.bat and it fixed my problem. Thanks ron and diego!

Tried Gabe's solution but it didn't work...in fact I have zero .FXR files on my computer. One interesting thing tho....started since SP2 was installed....AND...I can make it hang everytime by clicking on Outbox when there is nothing in Outbox.....Just my 2 cents...

To fix the FAXMNG32.exe has generated error...

Go into the C:\Program Files\WinFax\Data directory. List by most recent. Try to open the *.fxr files... you will encounter a bad one... that will cause a "WFVW32.exe error...". Delete that file and the issue will be resolved.

hi - i had the same problem and solved it !
i hope it will work for you !
i ran both Ad-Aware and Spybot search&Destroy softwares - you can get them freely on the web.
Then i restarted the computer.
it worked !! though i don't know which of the 2 cleaners has done it.

you can delete any faulty fax by first checking the date and time on the broken fax then browse to program files>winfax>data and sort them by date/time and delete manually the offending fax.

The reason it crashes is that it's trying to preview corrupted images for you and it can't cope.

delete the offending fax as above then all wil be ok.

works every time

Between the below responses & Symantec's "weak" support site, I found the solution. Winfax 10 does choke periodically when receiving faxes from certain senders (I don't know why). See Symantec Support: "Computer stops responding when starting Message Manager" (Document ID:1998091612535704). Apparently, some received faxes specifically cause the FaxManager to shut-down right after start-up.

I found that going to the data directory (c:\winfax\data) and deleting the most recently received fax file(s) (" *.FXR" look at the date/time stamp) will elimate the offending problem. You also might want to run Rebuild.bat on the data directory just for good measure.

I also had the FAXMNG32.exe error in Winfax 10.0 win 2k. Apparently a received fax hit a nerve in the winfax 10.0 program. I also reinstalled over the original installation. Easier fix, get another fax and your program should work like it normally does. DO NOT highlight the X error message or you will get the FAXMNG32.exe error message again. Not perfect but it works??? Good Luck.

Have you found a solution to this problem? I just got the same message and can not get rid of the offending fax.

After receiving a fax of 1 page that had an "X" in stead of a check mark, I began getting the same message. The problem was solved when I reinstalled the program. I did not uninstall the original, just installed the winfax 10.0 over again. The offending fax is still in my history and if I try to highlight it to delete it, the error message appears again and the program shuts down. I just carry on now and take care not to highlight that particular entry.

Good luck, it's not a perfect fix but it works fine in all other aspects.
