I noticed Lois had the same problem 4 days ago. I can't access Pogo, when I try to enter a game room, the applet says "page cannot be displayed" and it keeps running and running and won't load. I cannot view certain ads/pics on other sites either. My OS is Windows XP Pro and I have tried disabling firewall, enabling more cookies, running Norton Disk Doctor and Win Doctor and updating/cleaning my registry. Please help, my tech charged $50 to say he had no idea...

Hey thanks -- i can finally play pogo again!For those of you to lazy to scroll down the fix suggested by DAVE is to search for a file called HOSTS in C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC and change the name to HOSTS.XXX. i hope this helps all of you play for favorite games again.

Ugh!!!!! Neither renaming or going through netscape has helped me. I have a brand new dell and have turned off every possible security device i can find and tried everything i can think of....still can get the room page to load. it simply gives me an "error" message with a yellow caution sign. If anyone finds a solution, please let me know. So frustrated.

wow,it's amazing what a simple renaming of a file can do. I don't know what pogo is but I couldn't see any ads on the MSN homepage or yahoo after I sent an email, but it fixed it. hosts to hosts.xxx and bam. I wonder what else can be accomplished by this, hmm...

i was able to play all of the pogo games...then now i cant play some of the games...it says cripes! or something like that...ive taken down my firewall, my pop up blocker and nothing seems to work...what is wrong and how can i fix it!! please someone help..thanks

I have Windows 98se and I had a really bad outbreak of downloader trojan horses and got rid of them I also used spybot and kept coming up with dso exploit and alexa ...well my internet settings were not right and I could not see applets or ads ...renaming Hosts to Hostsxxx WORKED!!!! I cannot thank all of you enough for your posts and information. Thank you all again .

why is it that the restricted symbol comes up when trying to play pogo after loading and all this is shiitttttttttttyyyyyyyyyyyy. will somebody answer this question for me espesiallly AOL if not any body else please reply

We had the same problem recently. Could not get any games to load on pogo, but other games sites were fine. Our problem was a program running in the background. I disabled the program and now pogo plays with out problems. The program causing our problem was Peer Guardian.

i have the same problem. same error"page cannot be displayed" haven`t tried to rename host file yet. i have found a workaround...i think. try rite click >backwards links>...this brings up a google page that says something about dll errors..use the arrow key backwards in the text box until the begining of the message in the search box and like magic the pogo game begins to load. good luck too all

I haven't got a clue what it means to read the thread or what the host means but I tried what was recomended to chage host to host xxx and it worked right away. thank...you are a genius. I wouldn't have even know how to find that file but I did a search and hoped to God I chaged the right file that said host. I would love to understand what I did but I'm glad it worked...actually my husband is even happier as he is the one that plays on this site all the time.thanks

I have missed playing bridge at Pogo...Yahoo isn't nearly so much fun..I have downloaded Java Tm but still won't work...Pogo opens, the bridge room opens, I am able to sit at a table and that is where it ends????help

This worked for my eudora not showing ads problem too! Great. Thankyou very much. I think the 'hosts' file is a list of websites that are blocked - including dubious game sites and ad sites.If you rename the file 'hosts.txt' you can open it in a word programme to see the huge list. I just deleted every instance of eudora in the list, saved the file, and renamed it back to 'hosts'. worked for me. Now I get ads and 'sponsored mode' back in Eudora. cheers, Luke

I've been working on this same problem of not being able to play the pogo games because after clicking the link to enter a room under the advertisement it says that it could not display the page, for two weeks now to no avail.....Until I read this thread. THANK YOU Dave!!!1 it worked PERFECTLY.

I had the same problem and all i had to do was change the host file BUTmine was located in c:windows
just run a search for the file name hosts
and change it from hosts to hosts.xxx

My problem was a little different. It happened mostly in Yahoo, most of the ads showed as page cannot be displayed, and even if it was displayed, when i clicked on it, a new window woudl open but with another error page. I resinsalled IE6, deleted all my cookeies, tried regedit, nothing worked. But it seems that renaming HOSTS worked. SO thank you very, very, very, very much!!!

This is for anyone who cannot play pogo becaause the game won't load and it says action cancelled.
go to www.netcenter.com. This will take you to the netscape homepage.
From there, to the left of your screen you will see a list of topics.
Click on fun and games.
This will take you to the games page. Scroll down and you will see games listed which happen to be Pogo games. Click on any game to enter Pogo. From there you can go back to games and pick the one you want to play. This works and is an alternative to having to download Netscape just to play Pogo.( saves space)

Ever since we changed from dial up to DSL.I have the same problem in Pogo. It says "action cancelled" Below the advertisment section and will not load any games.
I have contacted Pogo and they suggested some things that did not work. I have tried disabling my spyware, no-ads, and everything else I thought it might be but with no luck. And Dave, your " fix" does not work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
I have started playing games at ionthunder.com, but the games are not as good as pogo's.
I hope someone finds a fix for this soon.

I'm in the same boat. I am trying to pinpoint the problem. Have any of you used an ad blocker program like Adware recently? I did, but uninstalled it, but no luck. However, I'm wondering when I ran it and deleted little files from the hard drive if it didn't remove something pogo needs. I never had the problem before I used Adware.

I have the same problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled IE6 and the service pack, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest java, I've cleaned my temp files, I've reloaded the latest shockwave player just for kicks, now I'm getting really frustrated!I've written to Pogo, but so far no response. I have played at Pogo for years. I recently moved and now I can't load any games. It sits on the blue window saying loading, but it flashes on the bottom of the screen that C windows shock error message and there it dies. I'm flabbergasted and more than frustrated with this site at the moment. I can play the games at Yahoo, but not at Pogo. All help will be appreciated :)

I am having the same problem as Kurtis and Lois on Pogo. I use win 98, IE 6 sp1, the most current version of java plugin, and have tried everything that can be of general knowledge. No ads load, no games load, the game loading page sits there and runs forever like it is loading, but nothing happens. Before this I played on pogo for over a year and can't tell what happened. Been into computers for many years and never saw something like this that no one understands. It makes you wonder if someone has set something wrong on these computers with some sort of blocker etc.
