i searched and one of the problem of war3 fatal error is the download maps in it,,,make sure to download maps from this sites:

www.epicwar.com

www.getdota.com

and patch your war3 in it newest version

so it fix the graphics of anygame as well,,,,although u must have a nyc and new graphics card or video card,,,today war3 is a popular game in the world,,,is has a new patch,,

1.go to your w3 shortcut exe.(desktop)

2.right click and properties

3.go to shortcut tab,find target

4.write at the end, leave one space and write -opengl

look at this diagram ("C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe" -opengl)

My new computer is pretty decent, 8gb ram, radeon hd5670 graphics card, 6 core processor so im sure it can run warcraft 3. I also have directx 11. I've tried reinstalling warcraft3 and ive updated to 1.24d, ive tried deleting the temporary replays and the movies because some have said that might be the problm.

I tried hosting DOTA on LAN and people can join, but shortly after the fatal error occurs, even before starting the game. This fatal error thing can happen anytime from the moment when i join someone else's hosted game, to anytime when im still in the game, sometimes long enough to finish a 20min dota game. but recently it got so bad it rarely lasts 5mins past joining someone else's dota game, so most of the time i get the error shortly after choosing a hero. I tried shutting down all my anti virus and firewalls including window's firewall, and ive tried redownloading the map and everything.
Funny thing is, when i host a LAN dota game and play against a computer(easy) the dota game goes smoothly all the way and no error occurs, which is why i believe i've got the problem localised to me playing LAN GAMES with OTHER people on GARENA. Any ideas? Any and ALL help is appreciated thank you!!!!

This crash was from a load file, i loaded a saved save file (i loaded a save file and saved over it) i have tried renaming all the files in wariii/properties and still doesn't work, i have tried the exception on warcraft on every software on my computer and yet it still crashes, whether it is because i saved over a save file or because i saved when network was laggy and may have caused a bug i don't know, but i have tried everything and still does not work, even the war.reg didn't work, and i'm not getting a new computer because someone already said it was nothing to do with computers being too crap.

I Lost a lot of game wins 'cause of this.. :S

Someone got a good and clear solution..?

Reinstalling doesn't work..!

Got a new laptop so thats not the problem..

First of all my problems were(compare yours);
1)When i try to go to options menu in warcraft3, give me a FATAL ERROR!
in basic spell: when i push the "options" button,the game closed and give fatal error.

2)When i update the dota to 1.24c(or whichever),i couldnt open the dota, it's crashed with FATAL ERROR

I searched internet about these fatal topics more than 8 hours....
I downloaded a lot of patches,no cd cracks,a lot of warcraft programs...
I upgraded the my all drives, directX etc...
I did a lot of things: regedit and creating new path, computer>left click etc and lot of lot of stupid things

but this problem(s) solved one thing
X.go to google.com and search "war3.reg" and in first page found correct link and download it to your warcraft 3 folder, (if it say "replace or smthng", click yes)
X.if u blind or smthng here is the direct link:

download war3.reg to your warcraft 3 folder and click it
AND THAN YOU CAN OPEN WARCRAFT and GOOD LUCK,HAVE FUN

AND one final thing if you have a connection problem to the server(battle.net or the others) try to found correct registry document and dont forget the click it (if u noob, download your server registry document -it seems like xxxx.reg- download it to your warcraft folder and click it,it ask you permission,click yes and try again

Anyway... I believe my problem starting happening when I switched to Vista.

Right click your game shortcut/icon -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab -> Check the "run this program in compatibility mode for" box -> windows xp 2.

I started looking into it and I found a post from someone saying go into Errors in your Warcraft3 folder and delete all the errors. I deleted all mine and first time I booted up WC3 it worked straight away.

that's hardware problem at me dont know for you. So i was having problem with warcraft III only no any other problems with programs or games.I run virus check, registry check, HDD check for bad sectors, system stability check, even FORMAT C:\ and reinstall Windows xp, and I still that error or system crash instead. First I think ist from my new CODECK PACK or some program but no! I try to have only warcraft III on my PC just to run it without problems but the crashes continue. Then i remember i was open my PC case to clean it and to fix my VGA fan and i plug out my RAM to clean my PC.........

SO for me the solution was to change RAM slot on the mainbord, may be the slot that you use is damaged or just is full with dust, or your RAM it's not good pluged in.

Try to change your RAM plase to another slot, be careful,put it well, dont push to much. I hope this can help you all who have that problem

I`ve tried to go in start>run>sound tab>standart acceleration
I`ve tried with -OpenGL
I`ve tried warcraft TFT>compatibilty>windows 2000
I`ve tried adjus my video settings 640x480x16bit low , low , low ...
I`m still getting the same error ... I`ve tried to rename the movies into "blah" or "asd" ... everything BLIZZARD said i tried and doesn`t work ...
I have all my drivers installed and DirectX 9.0c + no Codecs or DivX

i have had the same problem as almost everyone on here but none of these suggestions worked for me..

but when i installed my VIA CHIPSET drivers it ran perfectly....

For weeks I've exhausted every fix I can think of. I've reformatted, defragged, reinstalled, updated every driver, my BIOS, etc. Still I get the error.
This is a common problem. I've found many references on tech support forums when doing a net search for: "Warcraft 3 Fatal Error", but no solution I've read has worked. The only thing I haven't tried is the BIOS RAM Latency adjustment listed int his thread. I really don't understand that and am not comfortable trying...do I have to do this to get WC3 working? My RAM is: 2x "512MB DDR2-SDRAM PC4300 (266MHz)"

Other suggestions center on incompatabilities with video cards like mine: NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 6800. But I've tried every driver update from NVIDIA and Alienware I can get.

Go to your BIOS change your CAS Latencey for your RAM from "Auto" to 2.0, 2.5, 3 or what ever the CAS Latencey is on your RAM.. if you need to find out what your latencey is go to The RAM Manufactures Website.

got this problem too and found out that just the intro video didnt work... i renamed movie folder and added a "_". then i started the game and it worked! after closing, i renamed the folder to the original name and the game still works :)

Things I tried to fix the error:
*- changed all game settings to lower resolution and lower detailed graphic options
*- changing sound accelaration to 'standard'
- applying the patch
- installing reg files
*- playing game in 'selective start up mode'
- bought a brand new video card (radeon 9000) series (this is supported by the game, & installed latest drivers
- memory diagnostics
*- renaming movie folder to 'blah' (can't believe I actually did this)
- uninstalling/ resinstalling
*- changing the compatibility mode to '2000' (didn't think this would work as I am running XP)
*- running the application at the lowest resolution (changed from the desktop item properties)
- updated windows

Windows XP
Pentium 4 (3.0)
512MB
Radeon 9200
DirectX 9.0

It's obviously not WC3's fault, because I just put this computer together yesterday, and I installed Wc3 and World of warcraft open beta, wc3 got the memory could not read error.. so i tried fixing the ram latency, still same problem...

I played WOW, it ran fine for 15 mins, then i got some kind of blue screen and the comp rebooted..

Nonetheless, it is curious that some don't have the problem for long periods, and then suddenly have the problem. I have noted a couple of strategies that others have suggested that do not appear in this thread:

Adjust your dram timings in bios; that worked for someone.

Slow down your video ram; that worked for one guy.

Make sure to cache your video ram; that worked for another guy.

On AMD chips, turn off your internal cache; see if that works.

I haven't mastered this yet, but when I do, I'll return to this thread. The bug theory is starting to look the best to me, from all I've read from people dealing with this problem. One thing I have noticed, is everyone with this problem who mentions what they're running, they have AMD machines...

For the record, my ram is fine; I tested it thoroughly twice. I've done all the uninstall/reinstall; driver upgrades; sound acceleration; directX; AvanceFix.reg & war3.reg fixes; etc. and nothing has worked. I'm running an AMD 2500 Barton with a TNT2 card ( know, it's old) and 512 ram on an Abit NF7-M motherboard.

Your system will function just fine if you are running normal windows based application but will crash wile playing Warcraft. This is because when you are a playing the system resource is maximized and the system does not get enough power from your power supply to function.
If you have added components like TV card, extra DVDR or CDRW, extra ram and if your are running a AMD processor check to make sure your power supply is at lease 350 or 400 watts.
To make sure it is your power supply is the problem, try playing the game with one ram chip and disconnect any extra hardware like TV card and extra CD-drive.

I had tried all the fixes that have been posted, and to me nothing worked except for the one I have just told you all.

it sais I need directx 8.1 or higher. when I try to install the directc8.1 from the cd it tells me I already have a better one installed wich is correct I have directx9 if I am not mistaking.

Go to the war3 dir .eg "C:/programfiles/warcraftIII" see a folder called "Movies" rename it to "blah"

If you do any of these things it will work for a short while but not for long
This simply sucks and I am not sure what to do.

I thought it was my ram and so I went and bought new DDR 2700 2 512 MB of Kingston ram it worked fine till today and damn it is back again to haunt me.

I'm have been using computers for the past 25 years and I am CompTIA A+ Certified, MSCE and
CNA. So I'm def not new to computers.

I have done eveything in your tech support forum and it still doesn't work. Both Warcrat 3 and the frozen Throne worked on my older fsb 533 system but since I built this new system this is th eonly game that doesn't work. I even tried just installing the warcrat 3 with no patches and still doesn''t work. So as it stand I have both warcraft 3 reign of chaos and Warcraft 3 the forzen throne and cannot get them to run on my system. I tried dif setting on video and dxdiag. What now? The errors down below. JUst remember I tried eveything that you asked to do on your tech support website.

If you're receiving an error that simply says 'war3.exe has caused an error and needs to close' then you may have the DC-DSP Audio Filter installed on your system. Please remove all codec packs and audio filters from your system using the Add/Remove Programs option under Control Panel. If you are unable to find the filter, then try searching your hard drive for a file called “DCDSPFilter.ax” and rename it to "DCDSPFilter.ax.bak”.

This problem has accured to me several time.. Every time is was releated to the NIMO CODEC PACK... just uninstall..!!!!

1)right click on the shortcut you run warcraft with
2)go to proprites
3)change the target and add -opengl too the end

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM... I'VE NEVER THOUGHT THE SOLUTION WOULD BE THIS :
Adjust the sound hardware acceleration:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type dxdiag and press the enter key

If this doesn't work, go to START, run and type "msconfig". Use this utility to disable any startup applications you have installed since you installed windows. If you're running windows 2000, you will need to download the program:

I had that problem, too. Than I downloaded a memory test from: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#top

My memory was defective. After changing it the game runs without any problem.
