This is common for IE 5.5 or earlier. You need to upgrade to 6.0. Go to:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie An even better solution would be to use a different browser. Try this one: http://www.mozilla.com

Try using a different browser (download Avant Browser) and see if the problem occurs while using it.I had a similar experience with IE on my XP machine. I used Avant Browser and it worked fine so I reinstalled IE and it corrected the problem.

I am getting the same error message. I'm running ME as well. I've tried the scanreg /fix, tried disabling AutoComplete and clearing forms and passwords. This probably sounds stupid if I'm overlooking something, but I don't see a repair button when I go under add/remove. I get as far as selecting IE, and the only buttons I see besides the apply, cancel and ok are add/remove and install. Am I missing a step? Any help for the computer illiterate would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Often this problem comes about as a result of Adware and Spyware that hitch a ride on other programs you've downloaded and installed. The most recent example I've seen is a program called NavHelper. The name makes it appear to be connected to Norton Antivirus, but its not - it's a stupid little program that redirects certain URL calls to their website. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it's one of a number of programs that can cause it.Try downloading a program like AdAware or Spybot and have it scan your computer for parasitic programs. Once found, go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the culprits. The reboot and see what happens. Now the bad news...this could also be the result of a virus. If you're running Norton or McAffee, you may want to do a full system scan to weed out any potential culprits (often it's a Klez virus). If you find something, you'll need to disable the System Restore function of your operating system (so it'll let your antivirus software get in there and clean it up), have Norton or McAffee clean out your drive, and then enable System Restore and reboot. Hope this helps The Tom

Jack said that if you click on start, then run, and type in scanreg /fix it would help and he is right. you just have to remember to put a space between the g and the /. I had the same problem. Thank you jack for solving it.

Try this - Go to Control Panel Click on Add/Remove Programs Click on Microsoft Internet Explorer and choose the Remove option Click on REPAIR (NOT Remove, of course! ^-^ ) You will be prompted to reboot the computer to complete the repair; it's okay to do so I think that would hopefully solve the problem.

I am having the same problem. Tried your rebuild trick but it didn't work on mine. :( I am running ME as well. I've tried loads of stuff, getting really frustrated at this point.

I did a couple of things...but what I think worked was rebuilding the registry.Click on Start, then run and type scanreg /fix Then restart when complete. It seemed to do trick. Oh,yeah, I am using Windows ME
