From: Peter on 05/28/2003
after using the net for one-and-a-half to 2 hours the screen just freezes. i reboot and an explorer illegal op message comes up immediately. if i click on it i lose the page and it just comes up again and the cycles repeated. i reboot once again and window doesnt start instead a blue screen comes up saying "a fatal exception has occurred at 0028: C000538" etc etc, i reboot yet again and the fatal exception deal reappears sooner & sooner. is this a "crash". whats going on here? i have windows 98

Try replacing the heat sink of the CPU. most people who get this error have heating issues with their CPU.

i ran scandisk and several errors were found. at the end it said it supposedly fixed all the errors but it did nothing of the sort because the problem continued! Geez. anyway i'll try all those other things suggested and keep u up to speed.

Hi there

Give this a go,

when the window appears for the exception, look for any other messages that can help us...

reseat your memory modules in your pc, make sure that you ground yourself if you have not got an anti static strap...

If the problem persists, while using the net, shut down all applications and running processes in the sys tray. Leave the connection to the net and if your ISP puts its icon in the sys tray then leave that running to, there should be only your connection in the sys tray otherwise...

Use your internet as normal does the problem still persist...
run scandisk and scanreg in dos mode for good measure to keep your system in tip top condition...

keep us posted on the B.S. (Blue Screen)
