how to scan and repair disk cluster errors on a ve Post a Reply
From: ed on 04/28/2003
Does anyone know how please? I am getting write errors because I need to scan the hard drive but the cpu slows down after about ten hours and never finishes the scan. Is there such a thing as a defragmenter that can detect disk errors which then goes and repairs the error and comes back to finish the defragmentation without having to do each task completely serially and robotically?

Thanks for the help. I have somehow sidestepped the problem for now by uninstalling Roxio's GoBack and then was able to completely defrag with Norton Speed Disk. Still don't know what I'd do if Disk Doctor or MS ScanDisk had been the only the solution.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I'm using. I have AMD Duron 700MHz, 256 Mb RAM, external cdrw (pacific digital), daewoo monitor, old Microtek scanner (usually disconnected because of TSR interference), Microsoft Internet Keyboard, Microsoft Optical Mouse, on Win98se completely up to date for updates. I use Norton : NSW 2003, NIS/NPF 2003. Was using RAMidle but stopped that and started using Dachsund AntiCrash and Hare instead; I run EndItAll before I use Norton Speed Disk and Norton Disk Doctor. The write errors have been happening mostly when I use Internet Explorer when changing pages, especially with popup ads. However, my main concern is how to scan the hard drive within my lifetime. Any other ideas, please?

Norton disk tools/doctor works for me, I don't trust built in scandisk from MS.
