 IE6 causing blue screen - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT& Post a Reply
From: Stu on 04/24/2003
Hi - wondering of anyone knows what might be causing this

IE6 keeps causing my PC to crash to a blue screen of death with the message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and doing a physical memory dump (which never seems to end - I have to manually restart the PC)

It seems to happen after I've been using IE for some time or been looking at sites with high graphics content which suggests to me that it might be something to do with IE6 running out of memory of something.

However I have tried reformatting the hardrive and reinstalling all the software and OS from scratch and it didn't stop it. I've done all the service packs and patches. I've tried different RAM, different network cards - it still happened. I've tried it with personal firewall and anti-virus software on and off - still no difference.

Its starting to really annoy me cos it can happen 5 or 6 times in a day so any suggestions gratefully received.

SPECS:
Dell Dimension 4300 with 1.7GB Pentium IV
512Mb Ram
Windows 2000 Pro (SP3)
IE 6.0
3COM 3C905-TX and 3Com 3C905B network cards (I run two network connections)

Also having the same problem when running IE6 on my dell desktop. Problem didn't show until I just installed McAfee Security center - anyone know if these are related or is it a hardware problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Use a Single chip of RAM and try re-Installing.

I have exactly the same problem as well. I also have Office 2000 but I have not proof that this is the cause.

Any answers out there?

Check your memory ram, it might be broken!
In this case, replace it.
otherwise it can be a driver conflict. Check f all your drivers are certified.

Hi

Can't help, but just to say I'm experiencing exactly the same thing, but with XP. I have narrowed it down to installation of Office 2000 however. System works fine until Office is loaded, then the problems start. If I make a system restore to before it was loaded, the computer works fine, no crashes at all.

I even tried loading Office 97 and it does exaclty the same thing. If I load any other software, it doesn't affect it.

If anybody has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance
