Jason, Hi, Thanks for your response.

The hard drive was originally formatted as FAT32 and loaded with WIN95. I don't believe the o/s are incompatible, windows 98 comes up fine in the safe mode and I know that the safe mode is just bare bones minimum on drivers. I believe the conflict lies in one of the drivers but the error message doesn't give any hints.

I'm trying to avoid the Hdkill, Fdisk and reformat routine.

Thanks again for your response

Due to the difference in operating systems the two are not compatable for upgrades, you will need to format your PC and setup win98 on to your computer that way. back up all your important files first so you can trasfer them wghen you are done with the setup of win98.

You will need to detere the partition on your C:\ drive and make a new one, the partition must support FAT 32. Use Fdisk to do this with your win98 boot disk.

Go to www.bootdisk.com for your win98 bootdisk if you don't know how to make a boot disk.
