To Youbee:

hey i tried to delete csrss.exe but couldnt. I saw online that the file is safe, but then again on other sites, i saw that it was a trojan that needed to be removed. Then again, these sites seemed 'dodgy' because they were offering free scan to check if this was indeed a trojan. If so, how do i detect it because bitdefender wouldnt check it thoroughly.

If you want your computer to boot and use the internet safely without it crashing all the time, go here, get this, move your windows partition over and select dual boot.

http://www.ubuntu.com/

Now, only use windows for things you really need it for, which shouldn't be much if you actually look around at what amazing stuff you get with this. Life is now so simple.

If not, keep pounding your head against the wall, daily.

Well im ive got the same problem and its not a virus because ive used about 20 scanners non brought up anything. AND DONT DELET UR csrss.exe because that will give u a heap more problems. Simply download all the microsoft updates and run an adware program and that should sort you out. Hope this was some help.

My problem with the RUNDLL32.exe is this. I run WindowsXP Home; when I right-click on the desktop, to bring up display properties, and I go to the "Desktop" tab, it automatically crashes. "Run a DLL as an App" error comes up. I can't find anywhere that has a fix, or a solution to this problem. Might you all have something?

I tried something which I found surfing the net and am now using my browser without this error : -
Introduction - Rundll32.exe is an executable that runs .dll files as programs. Therefore it is not rundll32.exe that is the problem, it is a .dll file which is causing this malady.
Go to this web site; http://www.p-nand-q.com/download/rundll32.html , download the version of rundll32.exe that they have modified and follow the instructions to replace yours. Then reproduce the error.

Finally check the Application Log through the Event Viewer, which can be found in the Administrative Tools, for any entries made by rundll32. This should help to identify the dll that is causing the problem. Delete this dll or try replacing the dll to see if it solves the problem, get a new copy from the Internet or the Win2k disk.

This fixed the issue for me.

Try installing and using tracking and add cleaner which you can download and install for free:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/0,fid,7423,fileidx,1,00.asp

or

Clean up your temp folder at: C:\documents and settings\gen\locals settings\ temp
select all the files and folders in that folder and delete them all. Sometimes there are certain files which windows will not allow you to download don't worry just reboot and try again.

I'm getting a similar message, mine is also an application error and it reads:

THE INSTRUCTION AT "0X01512008" referenced memory at "0x01512008". The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program.

This happens sometimes when I CLOSE a web page. When I click OK it does go away but it's very annoying and I would like it to stop. Help please!

I think I solved the RUNDLL32.EXE APPLICATION ERROR problem.

But when I got down to trashing the CSRSS.exe file, it said I didn't have access.

Need more help!

Whoops! That didn't work. rundll32.exe error message came back when I launched Internet Explorer, but now I can't find the offending file when I search for it. I've tried going to the "System" control panel, clicking the "advanced" tab, enabling all error reporting then adding rundll32.exe to the exceptions list (those error messages not to report). I'll let you know how that works.

I think I solved the RUNDLL32.EXE APPLICATION ERROR problem. Here's what I did: 1) When the error message appeared I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete to make the Windows Task Manager dialogue box appear; 2)In the WTM dialogue box I clicked the "Applications" tab...there was the RUNDLL32.EXE error message. I right-clicked the error message and chose "go to process"; this flipped me back to the process list to a process named "CSRSS.EXE"; 3) Then I right-clicked the "Start" tab at the lower left of the screen and chose "search"; I searched "CSRSS.EXE" in "My Computer" and found three matching files; 4) Only one of the files was actually the complete name, the other two were just "CSRSS" without the ".EXE"; 5) I right-clicked the "CSRSS.EXE" file and chose "open containing folder"; this took me to the "Prefetch" folder; 6) I removed the prefetch file, "CSRSS.EXE", put it in the trash and restarted the computer.

Since I've done the above the error message has disappeared and not returned. God knows what won't work now that the file is missing, but at least the error message is gone.

We've been having exactly the same problem and error message. It pops up every time we launch Internet Explorer and won't go away unless we log off. We're using the latest version of Windows XP with all of the available updates. A friend of mine who is knowledgeable about computer bugs suggested that it might be an occult marketing research program downloaded surreptitiously as a cookie trying to access the internet. I removed all of our cookies and ran Ad-aware 6.0 Personal (Lavasoft, Sweden,)a program designed to remove those little marketing bugs. It didn't fix the problem. I can't find anything in the Microsoft data base about this particular rundll32.exe error message.

what operating system are you using with this error, rundll.exe is a vital file int he system, you could have a problem with the buffer for max string lengths, so if you have win2k get the latest service pack and install that...
