Have you looked into the possiblity that one of your hard drives has failed? I would seriously look into this. If scandisk is running and finding errors, you probably have a bad hard drive.However, it is typical in WinXP to get to a screen that indicates the HAL is missing or corrupt. If you are getting this once in awhile, you can assume it is time for a new hard drive. Computerpilot
